A superb win for Ferrari, but a win that will send shockwaves down the pitlane and throughout the sport. Despite the brave efforts of Fernando Alonso, this was a rout, and (literally) a Sunday afternoon drive in the park for the reigning World Champions.
Some will blame the new qualifying format, some, believe it or not, will surely blame Ferrari and Schumacher, but the fact is that the opposition has to raise its game.
Rather than looking at how it can screw more money out of everyone it should be looking seriously, and urgently at how the product can be improved.
This is not a criticism of either Schumacher or Ferrari, what they have achieved here is quite stunning, especially at a time when so many pretenders are 'talking up' their chances, and others are predicting that the German should be considering retirement.
Formula One has deluded itself by believing after a comparatively successful season in 2003, the nightmare of 2002 is dead and forgotten. The pundits continually 'talk up' the sport, when what really matters is what happen on Sunday afternoon.
The solution isn't too handicap the successful - can you imagine that happening in other sports - it is too ensure that the opposition raises its game.
A great performance from Schumacher, Barrichello and Ferrari, but Ecclestone, the FIA and the opposition must start to take a long hard look at the sport and start focussing on what matters rather than celebrities, tobacco, the European Union and how to make more money.

Come to think about about it, something else annoyed me aswell: When I watched the victory ceremony and the national anthems where played the podium was totally dominated by three, might have been four, guys in expensive ?armani? suits, we call them bobo's in our country, and not by the people who really mattered.

ignoring the result (Ferrari total domination and with plenty of speed in hand)
This was the most boring F1 weekend ever !
The qualifying format is pointless - session one is a parade lap for TV and sponsors. Well except that most viewers will switch off coz it's so boring ! The second session is still the same format but at least they're pushing as much as they dare - saving engine wear and tear - or god forbid pushing a little too much and jeapodising their only chance for a grid position.
Overtaking in the race ? Not much really. I'd hoped that the radical williams nose might somehow help in the disruption of the airflow when following another car - but JP couldn't get a sniff of an overtaking op for how many laps ?
So bring back multi engines weekends (can't happen this season)
30minutes of open qualifing - followed by a superpole for the top 8 cars (oh can't do that either coz they're only running one engine).
OK well at least stick a guerny flap on the rear wing (like Indy. Nascar etc) so that you can at least get a "tow" when following another car. oh can't do that either coz the cars are so finely balanced that it would takes weeks in a wind tunnel just to make the car drivable

Think the FIA and teams have really messed up this year - I can't see any easy fix for a terribly thought out weekend format. Yes perhaps the Michellins suffered alot in the low temps of melbourne (air temp 23C - so that will be about the average of the next 14 races).

Actually I think Ferrari will win the championship now I think about it and yes it was rather boring which kind of goes back on what I said

Shut up moaning. It wasn't worth the wait. I really don't see what your problem is. It's just a Formula One race, they'll be others (although many think that not too many more would be a good thing.)
you can set your alarm early for Sepang.
And, just to point out, if you didn't want to know what the result was, why the hell are you browsing a flippin motorsport forum! :doh:

I agree that we shouldn't resort to ballast - or have MS driving with one eye covered etc, but managing the resources would put a precedence on teamwork and operating somewhere close to the real world. With American Football, the lowest teams have the pick of the draft (don't ask me how you get the best college players in at Minardi) which works really well, keeps up the spectacle etc.
If we want 20+ competitive cars on the grid, then we have to limit the funds. The Ferarri success doesn't look quite so great when it is put in the perspective of them having a $100m start on the field, plus a B team.
This is where I believe the criticism should be leveled - the work that has been done by MS et al, would still be invaluable, and produce results, even if they had to lose a bit of budget.
I for one am done with it. Set the video and watched it this morning. Utter shite, I should have stayed in bed. I used to look forward to it so much, just remember what it was like when Hill was challenging Schumacher, every race was exciting and yet people STILL slagged Hill off....

I hate to say it ('cos I love watching it) but on this occasion I couldn't agree more. I got up and was so disinterested by lap 30 I fell asleep, and that's never happened before.
