Right so got over the self pity of the engine failure of my one week old Griff 500 and going to bounce back fighting!
So the car is at the garage and after chatting with them I'm happy they are a good bunch of guys and given them the green light to remove the dead engine. So while it's being done what else would anyone recommend having done, this is an emergency credit card job not won the lottery job!
Chris has said that a new cam would be a good idea (48K miles), would people say to go for the TVR Power cam "kit" with new gears, chain and followers or just the cam?
The sump is off and crank is fine, bearings are scored though so they are a must anyway.
I'm game for making parts from old wash liquid bottles and sticky back plastic! lol

I sympathise, mine failed 200 miles after I got her (1 year ago) and she hasn't been on the road since.
Since I did win the lottery (sort of) I decided to do everything. Engine now a 5.2 from Austec, chassis repainted, new Sagaris diff, new Intraxx shocks, body completely redone and resprayed. Currently she's about to get rollbars and in a couple of weeks a new custom interior.
Hard for me to say what you should do, but just be aware that once you go down this road it can get quite addictive.... Best of luck!

nice will your bonnet clear swirl pot pipe believe the austec 5.2 nice unit, the work you,ve had done on that car must be close to or exceed cost of new car easily but nice way to blow ya gold dust on

Yes, gold dust... there is actually some real gold dust on the car - I work on a gold mine (yes really) and my dad has experience in applying gold leaf so I thought this was a nice touch... (see photos).
The cost of the car already far exceeds a new one. But it is much better looking than a new one, I can guarantee. The guys who did the work on the body are true magicians. The bodies in the factory were never properly smoothed out, mine is now completely handsanded and handpolished and the effect is amazing. Like a mirror, honestly. As for the swirlpot - I was wondering that myself. It seemed to be too high but it fit last year... Guess we'll find out soon!

Sorry, will just answer this question. The colour is my own creation. I wanted a bordeaux red metallic with a golden sheen, but a very specific effect where there is large contrast between direct reflected light and diffuse reflected light. In other words - the car looks black except for the areas where light is reflected into your eyes. I was hoping that it would enhance the shape of the car, and I was not disappointed! The spray painter understood what I wanted and created the colour in 2 tries. His little detail was to use large flakes for the metallic, it makes the car look at bit more modern and aggressive even though it is a subdued colour.The result has really knocked me off my feet, even though it was my own invention, it is just wonderful. Everyone that comes in the shop comments on it, too.
OK, can't resist one last pic that shows the colour and the contrast a little better, although it is a little brown in the photo. This is BTW still before application of the clear lacquer and before the hand polishing - haven't got outdoor pics of that yet. Now back to regular programming!
