Hi guys,

There is one aspect of this otherwise excellent forum that is really spoiling my enjoyment of coverage of GPs, and that is that every time a female appears on screen there are cries of we!! Prostitute!, and by far the worst and totally unacceptable, Pig!!!! going up.

For crying out loud, what century or culture am I living in?

In my view, (and i realise i might not be welcomed for saying so) it would be exactly the same if defamatory language was used every time we see a black man. Now I'm all for freedom of speech but i thought we had moved on and that there now is a degree of language that is just not unacceptable. It is deeply offensive and i can see no justification for it whatsoever. If we're gonna call women pigs then those who feel inclined to do so might as well post the N word every time Hamilton or anyone else with some colour in their complexion is shown.

It is absolutely unacceptable. Please, can we all just grow up a bit?

Mods, feel free to lock or even remove this thread if you don't agree with me, and I certainly don't want to spoil what has otherwise been an fabulous weekend for the sport - but seeing women called pigs truly does spoil things for me. I would ban anybody using that sort of language.

You see the problem, this was said without a trace of remorse, despite the thread title.

It's just not funny.

I agree with the sentiment, but I think it goes a bit further.

A couple of races back, someone referred to Alonso as "stupid diego tt". The first and third words are a bit juvenile, not a big deal, but the second word is surely intended as a racist insult*. Disappointing that people would stoop to that level. I reported it, but nothing happened which was even more disappointing.

So if the mods / the site aren't keen to stamp out that kind of comment, then I don't hold out much hope for "just a bit of misogyny, innit lads". frown

*Of course, there may be another intended meaning to that word used in that context - if so, I'm happy for anyone to enlighten me.

Diego, as far as ~I know, has no racial or ethnic connotations at all.

'Dago' on the other hand:

wikipedia said:
Dago is a US ethnic slur for Italians and a UK ethnic slur for Italians, Spanish/Hispanics or Latin Americans.
So if someone is to stupid to even get the word right, surely they're not worth your time & indignance.

Yes - that was what I thought, which is why I said "intended as...". smile

Can't agree with that at all. Saying that it's OK for people to try to be offensive as long as they're not clever enough to do it properly isn't a great solution, I don't think.

I'm not saying that it's OK. I'm saying that this person's stupidity should be exposed and ridiculed to the point of it stopping them from posting at all. Gets rid of the racist element at the same time.

It wasn't meant to be funny, she's vile. Even her band mates cant stand her self serving ways, she had their last singles credit changed to "Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger" and half of them left.

Then shirley, it is also necessary that the half termers who come on and usually start the 'scherzinger' 'fwhoar I/you would....' should also modded off to cease and desist, given that they are as equally as bad reducing a woman to nothing more than an assemblige of cosmetically enhanced, sexual objects, with an really annoying voice, rather than the successful businesswoman, artist and sensitive humanitarian that she really is...

Then again if someone could have a word with the broadcasters about why she is the only driver WAG on the current grid that features in any broadcast? Have you heard another F1 WAG speak on camera? Does any other get interviewed?

Alternatively this could be Pistonheads... A broad church. Where men, or new laddism, can peacefully co exist, with middle class new age PC male handwringing twaddle. 'misogyny, def 'hatred of women'? I don't think so. Immature, sometimes, infantile quite possibly. Next it'll be irresponsible to say, "Phwoar look at the displacement on that V8!" For fear of a rebuke about speeding kills, and the unnecessary environmental impact of a voluptuous pair of turbos!

It's like the rest of PH is becoming, it used to be a funny, intelligent, articulate place, now its all gone wrong since the masses found out about it, Maybe it's the Haymarket influence.

With regard to the misogynistic comments, when women see them they usually say "I'd like to see what he looks like" referring to the poster.
