I've been thinking about getting an Impreza STI for a while now and am always checking insurance quotes to keep an eye on costs. I had a quote from a large nosed animal last year of £800. This had increased to £950 by about March, just done a quote now and it's gone up to £1200! I know an Impreza isn't going to be cheap to insure, but how can it go up 50% in a year when nothing has changed apart from I'm a year older and have another years NCD?

Cost of Insurance has gone up massively in the last year, there's about a thread a day on this.

Easier said then done. Tried all the big names, everyone one is either the same or more. One even came out as £4k with a £3k excess! Going to try some specialists on Tuesday just to see if they can get any better. At the moment it looks like I'll be keeping the E36 for a while yet. If you've got any suggestions I'd be more than happy to hear them.

It's rip off Britain. Our insurance is way more expensive than most countries.

They will rape you for an Impreza.

I am 31 and have no UK no claims (was living overseas for a while), for my Classic STi wagon I was quoted 3 or 4 grand. fking staggering! Stupid!furious

I managed to get insurance for ~£1,500 thank God after lots of phone calls.

I've been phoning a few. They're all claiming the winter snow/ice claims have pushed up premiums this year.

Is it modified at all? Adrian Flux were excellent value for me and that's with bigger brakes, stiffer springs and adjustable dampers, polybushed, the lot! Much cheaper than most big companies were quoting unmodified. Discount if you tell them you're on PH too.

I have a standard 1.8 Mondeo, and my insurance has increased by 40% since last year!(No changes since last year) I've tried everyone that I can think of, and Aviva were the only one that even came close to the renewal amount!

So, it's not about having a silly car, or a crap insurance company, sorry.

My renewal quote was quite a bit lower this year (86% of last years premium). And that's with a modified car. Specialist insurers are where it's at.

Why the dispute? Have your insurers agreed a return premium if the matter is settled in your favour?

Almost right - its the rip off population of Britain.

If you have any acquaintances (hopefully not friends) who have ever made a claim for "whiplash" for several thousand, then gone to play Tennis or go windsurfing straight afterwards, or indeed anyone who used the "wrong type of ladder" etc blame them - even better, punch them in the face.

Anyone who has ever claimed for something that they didn't need to, either by dishonesty or being encouraged by ambulance chasers are at fault for raising your insurance claim.

I have been saying this for years, since the real start of ambulance chasing. Now its finally coming home.

Truth is, it can be blamed on Blair.

As part of his drive to free up funds to Make Us Look Richer Than We Actually Were during the '00s (as the basis for Brown's economic policies), he found an 'innovative' way to slash the legal aid budget by making no-win, no-fee claims services legal.

Prior to this, if you were poor and couldn't afford a lawyer, you had to apply for legal aid, and it had to be over something genuinely serious. Slipping on a wet floor you failed to spot with your fully-functioning eyes wouldn't get it.

Unfortunately, like most things masterminded my Blair and Brown and given the spin treatment by Campbell and Mandelson, this blatant act of myopic costcutting was dressed up as an 'inclusive' policy that would make legal services accessible to all.

Same goes for shutting down the exclusion units and the special schools. Keeping the severely disabled and the dangerously delinquent schooled away from specialist treatment alongside kids trying to work is 'inclusive', don'tcha know, so no-one could 'attack' the policy without being labelled evil.

Ah, looks like I have no hope of re-insuring the Panda then. Last year paid £685 third party fire and theft, its been off the road at home this year as I've been at University 500 miles away and halls weekly parking cost > weekly petrol cost! But next year our house is slightly out of the way, impractical to walk to uni (well over 1 hour), I refuse to use the bus (full of neds, smells of piss, most drivers I've encountered on the few times I had no choice but to take the bus were rude miserable tts) and cycling is not really an option as I look stupid on a bicycle. I digress. I had one quote of £385 fully comp but that was 6 months ago. Now I'm guessing things will be much worse.
