Long story short I am in the market for a new, sensiblish car to do 13k a year in. I was originally looking at a BMW 3 series coupe 2.0D SE for around the £13.5k mark with 60k on the clock.

Now, that was fine until I found a 335D M sport version of it, with 20k on the clock going for 11k. It has more or less all the toys bar sat nav, has 20k on the clock and is still reasonable to insure for me. The only down side is it only does 42mpg, compared with nearly 60 on the 2.0D version.

For the saving it makes more sense to go for the 335D. I am by no means a sporty driver, and can live with the 2.0D quite happily, but if the 335D works out cheaper...it makes sense.

Am I missing anything here? The £3k saving more then covers the extra insurance (extra £600), and a couple of years worth of diesel? Are there any other major cost difference between the two i need to consider?

cheers guys

Im pretty sure the 335d will be worth more then jack st in years to come, whilst the 2.0d will be next to worthless. Thats all in my opinion ofcourse...

Hang on a sec. You're saying you've found a 335d m Sport for £11k. biggrin

I suspect the ad may be scam-tastic, that being the case. You'd be looking at twice that for a 335d.

Your going to be missing £11k if you go down the 335d route.

OP is it this one, or another?

This one stands out like a sore thumb on AT.

Just a note for any other innocents out there, any ad on AT that has email addresses on the pics = SCAM!!!

AT really should have better moderation of ads.

Stick with the 320d.

Cheers,
Rob

That autotrader Guy had a different 335d for 11k last month too. Even cat d 335ds are around 16-18k. The cheapest was a 160k mile 335d for 15k.

It will only do about 36mpg too. Unless its only slow m-way.

Stick with a sensible 320.

I don't get how the scams would work though; what happens if you want to go and test drive, and pay in person??
What would he do?

That's the thing. You would never get the chance to test drive or pay in person. He'd be out of the country and would ask you to "wire me the monies"

Or there is an nice 330d you could go for, nice compromise and only £4k biggrin

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

I would have thought the scammers would need to be more intelligent than that!
