Renault gearbox - selection problems and noises

2003 Laguna diesel (ie six speed box)... not selecting well, if at all, and horrible graunching in neutral with clutch out (suspect this alone indicates major calamity as I imagine the input shaft is spinning and driving horribles in the box, rather than it being a clutch problem).

Anyone ever rebuit one of these?

I would look at the hydraulic system before you get too involved with gearbox's. Mate had loads of problems with the master cylinder on his which caused lots of gear problems and in the end, the clutch pedal stayed down.

Worth eliminating I guess, but must say this feels and sounds well mechanical rather than hydraulic... I'd be delighted if it was *just* a master cyl! That said, I think they did a recall for just that but also seem to remember mine had it done...
