For some obscure reason I noticed a review of the new Ford S-Max in the local rag and saw that the range topper no longer uses the trusty ol 5-Pot Volvo engine instead using a slightly lower output new 4-pot engine.

Will the current Focus RS (and 500) be the last cars to use this great ol engine?

It's still available in the C30 isn't it?

Yeah, definitely in terms of Ford models. I'm sure Volvo themselves are going to continue to use it. Makes sense, I guess, after the Ford/Volvo split

It was the upcoming split that made me think of it.

Hows does the engine stand on Euro- 'whatever number is coming next' emissions? I'm guessing it's fundamentally the same engine that I had in my old 850 T5?

Essentially, it is the same base engine; My Focus is EuroIV (I think), so I'm sure Volvo can continue to improve it for whatever's coming.

Sad it is that Ford have cut the 2.5T from their range in the S-Max and replaced it with a lower CO2 emmitting 2.0 Ecoboost engine.
I like my 5 pot turbo. thumbup

The idea of having a 300bhp S-Max sounded interesting.

Good news.. It's a cracking engine. As I mentioned earlier, my 2.3 T5 lump in my old 850 had bags of grunt and sounded ace.

One of the family has an S-Max 2.5t with the bluefin update and it's a characterful beast for a big family car. Not amazing on petrol though.

I can't help but think an eco 4-pot is gonna lack a little soul by comparison.
