I know - I'm worse than some of those people dithering over Griffs and Tuscans

Still doing my homework on Digital SLRs. Does anyone have experience of the S2?

If so, what's it like, how's the shutter lag (when you're trying to catch TVRs and peoples' expressions ) and are the results as brilliant as they should be for the money?

Looks to be reasonable value for money and when the S3 comes out later in the year it might be that the S2 is a bit of a bargain?

I'm not excited by Nikon's D70 because it won't have a second shutter release and the popular D100 isn't coming down in price too much at the moment.

Want to stick with the Nikon mount though as I already have some excellent Nikon lenses (3) and the Tokina 28-70.....

Had a quick play with a pal's S2.. very very saucy. Didnt notice any shutter lag at all.. as you'd expect. He told me the batteries were a bit of a bore.. a load for the digital side of things.. and some more, non rechargeable, for the metering. Or something like that.

The quality from it is top notch.

I've had my eye on this too - though by the time I can justify it, it will be obsolete! It's a Nikon underneath and seems to compare very favourably.

Pal - or S2? Very encouraging then - they may have made some progress with power management on the S3 maybe....

I know what you mean about obsolescence Simpo - and that link is mighty useful - half a dozen other interesting reviews at the bottom of the page

A camera as good as that wont be obselete for ages.. no matter how many evolution are released, IMHO. Unlike GP laptimes, PS2 games, dowload speeds... etc etc... the way we us humans appreciate a well taken image doesnt changes, even if the media does. yes yes I've had some beer

Still thinking about the Fuji - can get hold of a secondhand S1 for about £450.

Now I know they weren't very smart in the battery department, and they started the controversy over interpolated pixels and the like. But it still seems a fair amount of camera for the money.....

I've got an S2, never had a problem with battery consumption, except when I have custom settings enabled, as it doesn't enter power saving mode then. Without any custom settings, i.e. just on Aperture or Shutter mode you can realistically get around 800 shots without recharging the batteries, providing you're using NiMH ones, not alkaline.

The lag is more or less none existant even with a shutter speed of 1/4000th and continuous shooting enabled.

If you've already got some Nikon lens then I'd say go for it, but if I didn't already have Nikon lens then I would probably gone for the Canon, mainly because it was cheaper. At the minute though I have no regrets!

The S1's get around 6M pixels per photo, but from a 3M chip. If you're into your cameras, and I know YOU are Ron!, the S2 would be a far far better purchase

From my experiences with mobile phones, MiMH batteries still have a memory. I'd favour LiIon if that's an option.
