Hi New user here just signed up.
I have a question which has probably been asked before
RE 2.0L Zetec fitting to a Consul Capri.
Now i have a silver top Zetec and a mkII or III Capri
front cross-member with rack and pinion steering a type 9
5 speed box and 2.0l Capri prop shaft.

Could anyone advise me on engine mountings to use or fabricate
I have a escort water pump doing away with power steering pump
but what drive belt do i use and lastly what rear axle should I use
as the original is a 1340cc unit.

As a extra piece to the puzzle the engine is a Vulcan unit bored
out to 1600cc big valves unleaded lightened fly wheel and putting
out 110bhp, yes OK for boy racer but i just want modern motoring
and reliability.
Thanks For any response.

Easy conversion, a lot of Se7en kit car builders use Zetecs with a type 9 gear box. Depending on what you have planned for the car wet or dry sumps are vastly available and megasquirt or stock donour ecu to run the car. Due to the weight of the body I'd be more interested in torque. Would the 2.0 Zetec produce enough to move the car adequately.

As Ford are using Volvo engines to make their cars reasonably quick why not get hold of a cheap 740/940 turbo and fit the engine and manual box out of that? Plenty of torque, already right wheel drive, cheap, robust, tunable, reliable and plenty of cheap cars about so all the parts you'll need in one donour.

Hi thanks for replies the consul Capri weighs about 950Kg
and the Mondeo about 1250Kg putting out 130bhp standard
torque should not really be a issue, I just want a modern
engine reliability as i intend to use the car on a daily basis.

I have seen this conversion on the web but can not contact
the person who had done this.I have found much info from
various sites but as said struggling with engine mounts and
water pump / alternator drive belt arrangement at mo'.

I intend to use the Mondeo fuel injection and ECU a wiring night
mare I know but as a competent auto electrician i think (hope)i can
figure that out.

Thanks for Replies.

Why would you want a car that only drives the right wheels? Won't this drive like a sack of spuds, pulling over to one side all the time?

That goes without saying.

The reason why I took a pop at the snob-wheel-drive boring comments, 9/10 a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive engine are the same, they're just turned round in the engine bay and have a different gearbox.

If you're fiddling with bellhousings and engine mounts anyway then it doesn't make a jot of difference.

If you're looking reliability, why not use the Duratec? Timing chain instead of belt is a huge bonus to start off with. The 1.8 Duratec is 125hp rated and often outputs more than 130hp.

A mondeo engine is a sin.

Whereas a V8 is the right way to go.

This is true. V8 or tune the original engine.

It's OK for the various kit cars, why's it a sin?

Have a look at the Spyder Elan Zetec conversion. As the bottom end of the engines are common it might give you a few tips on what to do/not do.
