Hi all,
Just after some opinions please. I have 3mm tread on the rear Pirellis, Le Mans for me is about 1000 miles all in, should I get the tyres changed before going or not? They should be perfectly legal, and although I have no intention of speeding and getting pulled by the gendarmes, if they did pull me, would they do a full inspection of the car and try to pick on things like the tyres if they were getting low?

Thanks

I would have thought it would be better to consider your safety, the rain was torrential last year on the way back, I wouldn't want to be on 3mm of tread

Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

Get em changed IMO. Pirelli's not the best IME, and would want the peace of mind.

It is a lot more than the legal minimum. This time of year, I'd change them after your trip. Different story in the Autumn, obviously.

Destroy the tyres on your trip as a fitting farewell and change them once you get home.

I discovered my Porker was still on winter tyres the day before Le Mans last year when I retireved it from the back of the garage!! They survived the trip well and made for some interesting roundabout exit trajectories in what was near 35degree air temps all weekend!

If they are legal I'd not worry too much, but be cautious arseing about too much if it is wet!

I'd be tempted to change them, get more enjoyment out of your car on a long trip! recently stuck some Conti's on my Boxster and wished i'd put them on months ago

3mm is fine. Lots of sport tyres only come with 5mm on when brand new.
