Preparing feet for walking

Can anyone advise of any way in which I can get my feet more used to walking distance? Did an 11 miler the other day in the Lakes and my feet were burning by the end of it. Ive done quite a lot over the years but I dont do it everyday/everyweek so its hit and miss when I get to do it. Next week I plan to be walking about 4 days in 7.
