Pear Tree Infestation
Discussion
I have a lovely old pear tree which is starting to sprout this years crop. I'm renting the house so it's the first time I've seen this happen. I've noticed stacks of little (minute) black insects all over the leaves and wondered a) what they are, and b) how I get rid of them assuming I should.
Just googled (should have first - sorry) - sounds like black fly and should use a contact insecticide and preferably an organic product which clearly states that it can be used on fruit and edible crops.

Well you certainly want one that has clearance for use on edible crops (there may be a time interval between spraying and harvest in the instructions) but as for 'organic', pfft.Bug Clear for Fruit & Veg will sort you out. With a tree, you will want a half decent sprayer and make your own concentrate.

5l will be fine, generous even, for most gardens with a tree or two. Those prices are pretty keen, I think, so you would be smart to add a 2l or two so you don't have to be throwing away batches of one prooduct so you can spray something else (like weedkiller).

They're incredibly effective, back when I was a little'un my mum used to grow roses, me and my sisters would comb the garden looking for ladybirds to put on her roses to eat the greenfly
Oh I know how good they are! Shame I do not have that many in the garden doing their stuff.
