Im looking for an everyday car and have a budget of around 4k. I was thinking of a 944 as i dont want something boring. Any advise you guys can give me as to weather i can get something everyday reliable for that money and what to look out for would be much appreciated.

£4K should get you an concours example of an 2.5 but it also brings you into 2.7, 944S (190 BHP 16V 2.5) and S2 (210BHP 16V 3.0) territory.

With any 44 but especialy the 16v models, making sure the cam belt has been changed at the right interval is very important. Also be wary of any high mileage 16v model which has'nt had its cam chain replaced.

Best bet is to get an independent Porsche specialist to cast an eye over any potential purchase.

My '84 has been as reliable as any car I've ever had. On occasion, I drive it to work 5 days at a time, switching to another car the following week. Toss the old relays and it will be quite reliable. Timing belt notes on prev post are correct advice, don't skimp and you'll be smiling.

My 944S was a very reliable daily driver for 4 years, but it did cost a bit in servicing. The last 12k service I had done cost me just over a grand. I sold it last Nov for 2.5k, just needing a crack in the front bumper repairing, so you should be able to get a decent one for your budget.
