Trying to sell my car to buy a Z4, so have put it on autotrader. But after a few time wasters i think i might be over valuing it. so.. how much is it worth..

2002 VW Golf 1.6 S, Black with Black cloth. 76k, FSH,
Bit of damage to rear arch and bumper could do with a respray, quote 400 all in to restore to mint.

How much is it worth? i was thinking 3k?

oh and i live in somerset so factor that in, not much choice round here.

Unfortunately fewer buyers also - so prices will be less.

You're not going to like this, but if you got £2K you'd be doing very well

No idea what it's worth, but if you're advertising it properly and its not selling then it's overpriced pretty much by definition.

I think it works the other way round, fewer cars so higher prices, look that way from looking for z4's

and ive had an offer of 2k but im looking for more, i think i might fix it first.

Hmm,
I sold my Mk4 Golf GTI 4 years ago; it was 6 years old with 50k on the clock and was in perfect condition with a few good options. I got around 5.5k for it. I'd suggest that you'd be very lucky to get 3k for your 1.6 without the damage. The golf isn't exactly a rare car, so I think that in order to sell it, you'd have to get it fixed first, then be ready to negociate on a deal.

I think that would be a wise decision. Buyers will obviously want a lot off to recompense the hassle of getting her fixed.

If you are having interest but low offers you migh want to UP the price.

I had my car up but people were making silly offers.
So I took it down, put the price up and soon received an offer, which was a big discount off the new asking price, but exactly what I was looking for in the first place.

Most people when they buy their "New car" want to show it off with pride, if it is damaged, the first thing you have to explain to them is the dent! So you end up apologising for your purchase, no fun. Also most private buyers will expect a mountain of cash off for the dent but never get it done on a car of that vintage so they too will be selling at a discount. Finally, the law of supply and demand will balance out your location with the number of buyers. Thats why there are no Bentley dealers in Somerset and why there is no scarcity of Gofs. In summary, drop your price or get back to the 2k offer and try and squeeze a touch more.

£3k? You are joking right.

Don't mean to sound like a tt but just because it's called a Volkswagen Golf does not make it desirable (well it does to stupid people sadly).

I would take £2k and run for the hills.

On second thoughts I do actually think that someone out there would gladly buy it for 3k. spin

If you look at Autotrader you wont get a sub 80k 1.6 =>2002 Golf for £2k.

As above, sort the damage and you should be ok.

£1500 seems to buy a 2000 car with under 100k on it. That's where my money would be going if I really wanted one of these.

Thats a good ad plus a more realistic price. There is of course a but, and it is that even by saying "No offers" be prepared for some offers. You would be a hard man not to accept £2400 if you saw the cash on the table.

If the tints are no longer there then don't bother mentioning they've been removed.
As before, AC is more important . . . does it actually work ?
Is it on long life service intervals using the more expensive oil ?

Maybe it's just me, but the ad wording comes over as a bit aggressive. It seems to me that it's entirely possible to buy a sub 10-year old well-specced 1600cc hatchback in good condition for a bit over 2 grand (eg a Focus). So given that the thing needs a fair amount spending on it, it appears you're charging quite a premium for the badge?
