I feel quite tempted by a chim in the classifieds advertised for 1O grand, 29000 miles , Rosso with magnolia hide, no history, was damage repaired 2 years ago.

i think a 4 ltr chim would be a good first tvr but i don't want a bad exprience.

I mean i could afford this but would it be a nightmare rather than a dream come true?

to be honest i don't really like the looks of the "s" whereas i love those of the chim especially in the colour this one's in (rosso with magnolia hide), it's a 1997 car aswell so ,hopefully, it shouldn't be that bad.

This car has been discussed on the Chimaera forum around a month ago when it first went up for sale - have a look through the archives. Lots of opinions.

I would echo that - remember reading about the car. At the end of the day though its VERY cheap for a 1997 car with so little miles. A bit of time and effort spent in sorting it out is likely to increase the value which is a rarity in the world of cars.

If you are on a tight budget, and handy yourself to be able to do the work yourself, it might be a winner. If not, you may want to look out for an older/high mileage car that is in the same sort of price range (give or take a few grand) that is already sorted.

Remember the thread - someone on there had been to see it IIRC - looked a bit dodgy paintwork wise as well - so a bit of expense needed to get it looking good ...

Save up a bit more and get a better one IMO.

There's always another car, just be patient, you're spending you're hard earned cash so just hang on for a bit longer. AS someone said you'll only blame yourself if it started going wrong.

If there's no history, how do you know the mileage is accurate?

No such thing as no history! Just histories that people don't want you to know about.Lots of nice cars out there to choose from.Car must have FSH otherwise walk away.

You could get a good straight one with history for that money, just slightly older.

When cars get paid out by insurance companies and the insurance sell them as salvage the history is very often lost. Or sometimes the owner at the time would not send it to the insurance company. It is always worth if you are interested in the car to try and contact previous owners. They have no reason to lie about anything and might even have history for it!!

If you know what you are looking at with chimaeras then I can't see that no history would be that much of a problem. If the cars sound the car is sound regardless of its history!!

Leg it and don't look back.
If you're struggling at £10K the last thing you need is a potential £2K+ car bill -
£10K for a drive ornament is a lot of cash. Gnomes and a water feature are cheaper.

You'll get an nice early 4.0 with a full history for that sort of money anyway.. the other thing to consider is if you bought it and then wanted to sell it later on would you want a thread on here like this talking about YOUR car..??

IMO Make like a shepherd..

Cheers,
Matt

In some cases the serp engine and later gearbox are worth the not quite so shiny bodywork IMHO

I would suggest not in this case, unless you really know what you're looking at
