We're taking a few crates with us, but will buy some out there as well. This is so we don't have to go stratight to the shops when we get there, and also for a bit of variety over the weekend. To be honest, the beer deals they do in the supermarkets means it's still an absolute bargain even with the Euro what it is.

IIRC, the full sized crates of Biere '33 (24 or 32 stubbies, cant remember) were only about 6 or 8 euros last year - and they were handing out discount vouchers when we picked them up too.
That and wine is pretty cheap there too, which would lead me to believe that it is not worth the effort of lugging your own booze down there, poor exchange rate or not.
One consumable that we will be taking with us in abundance this year however is food! Specifically, bacon and sausages - no more chevaux steaks for breakfast for me thanks!
Wine is the way forward on race-day, means that unlike with beer you don't need fight your way out of the crowd every 1/2 hour to queue for the toilets plus it goes great with the goats cheese baguettes on all the stalls.
As long as you can ignore the fact that €7, six bottle crates taste like paint thinners it's all good!

Went back the next day, all the Guinness had gone, most peculiar.

I would also try Rekorderlig. Had a taster session last night and the Pear cider is as good as Koppenberg. Which is a change after the Bulmers and Brothers rubbish.Giggling like a schoolgirl, of Lincolnshire.
They also do a great strawberry and lime one for the ladies, which is very very nice.
Worth buying a few bottles.

I like the distinction that you think stawberry & lime flavours are for the ladies, but pear isn't. To my mind, Cider made or tasting of anything OTHER THAN Apples, is for ladies.
