New rear grill

Well after much thought i decided to have a go at replacing the rear grill so it lets more air flow through the engine bay ,Adrians carbon aero foil section is awsome but at close to £700 to supply the bits it was not realy a option so i bought some 6mm alloy rod (£20)and made a grill , pretty pleased with the results !!







not sure how i,m going to fix it yet but i,m pretty sure something will pop into my head !!

Convert it to gas fuelled, and a twin flamer kit and your almost there !!

Are you going to remove the 20mm lip that goes all the way round the opening?

How about securing the grill with a few P Clips riveted to the lip? Alternatively you could braze/weld some threaded section perpendicular to the grill that would bolt up through the lip?

Hi guys thanks for the good feed back , one thing I love about this car is the chance to tweek and modify it , there always seems to be something to do !!!

I have just ordered some stainless 6 mm sadle clamps to hold the grill in , have also been working on replaceing the intercooler inlet grill to match , I think the lip will be trimmed back on a few places to maximise air flow , also working on a couple of other bits will put photos up when I have them sorted .

you sure have picked up some good skills along the way

if you wanted to learn to how to lay up fibreglass i have a few idea's that could really improve flow through the intercooler

Looks like from the third photo that you're contemplating opening up the rear of the wheel arch?

Ha ha ....well spotted !! yes i am planning that job next but i cannot take the credit for that idea , Adrian has done all of the aero development just copying his car !!

Hi Gadge , never done anything at all with fiberglass .....other than cut holes in it !!

I have been lining a water feature in my garden with fiberglass And the bloody reisin went off before i got it out of the mixing up bucket.

sounds like you have got it sorted then !! when i tried it i managed to stick my tools to the workbench

All done , managed to find some 6mm stainless clips that did the job perfect ...........although i HATE the number plate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah me too!!

While I like what you've done with the grill, is there any chance you could paint it black so it doesn't look like you've just cut it from a shopping trolley?
