As the Tittle suggest I'm after a economy focused car with at least 140 brake for my work . A 320d se 2006 with satnav , 85k with 3 services and next due now for 10500 at cargiant . Good buy or not ?

Otherwise I'm looking at the passat ( which is the cheaper option )and possibly a a4/6 in the 2 tdi form sadly they are 2k more expensive !

Any thoughts ?

Tourings are exactly that, touring. If you want estate levels of room in the back, forget it. They've usually less boot space than something like a Vectra or Mondeo.

Otherwise, I personally prefer the touring to the saloon in the 3-series.

What he said. Travelled back from Devon 5 up in a friend's 330d Touring.

Shouldn't have. That car is a four seater, despite the fifth seatbelt, and the boot is pretty small.

If you're after a large hatchback, go for it. Otherwise, go a size up.

Oh, and all the electrics on his had given up the ghost too.

Isn't that about the mileage when the turbos go pop on those?

A girl I work with has an early E90 320d. She's on her 5th turbo. Turbos 1-3 all died in the first 20k, number 4 lasted 30k, and the 5th one was just replaced at 85k.

Edit: typos, crumbs in keyboard...

It's an 85k miles for 10500 on which I have to add the warranty if I want to , that's provided by the AA .

I know it's not spacious however I do need that all important 30 mpg in town

She doesn't drive hard - all quite long journeys, and the OBC is sitting at around 55mpg, so that tells how she drives.

I suspect you're right that there's something else wrong, but that's main dealers for you. If the diagnostics don't tell them what's wrong, then just keep on swapping the part without looking to see why the part failed.

Christ!! How many turbo's? My E90 320d is on its original turbo at 58K....i feel like i should be destroying them more often.

I cant honestly believe that story is true without hearing all the facts.

The old 520d touring 06 plate i had for work was knocking on to 98K without any turbo problems.

Even a current shape Civic has more boot space than a 3 touring. Also has 140 brake, the top-spec EX ones get nav, bluetooth, etc as standard and you'll get a much newer one for your money.

I do like the accord , however the previous shape estate it's not to my liking and the new one starts at 16 k . Don't see how the civic is more spacious

Well at least if you fit a roof rack, and wear a high vis jacket, you'll have no problems with motorway driving.

I appreciate that aesthetics are a matter of opinion, and may not matter for a work purchase, however that car is the ultimate super bland boring spec.

Definitely agree. I was looking at very similar requirements (estate, diesel, good spec, decent looking) with no real preference - the above fit perfectly. I bought a 2006 sportwagon vector (leather, climate, cruise etc) with 50K and FSSH for £6200 in Jan. It has been great and the servicing bills are very reasonable.

Cheers

Can I add that to my line of work badge snobbery matters .

With no disrespect to other but I have always stayed away from fm products however they are pretty good value for money .

Can anyone tell me about car giant and what sort of grief I may get ? Was there last night and there was a que if people buying cars . As to the BMW it had a bit of notchy gear change is that something common or due to the car being cold or is it some bit more sinister ?

Jesus, not another "OMG, I couldn't have a BMW without leather and xenons and 19s" post. It's a ten grand estate car with an emphasis on comfort and economy. SE spec with sat nav is just fine.

I think it's priced reasonably, but check the condition closely. Most (but not all) cargiant cars are ex-fleet vehicles which have had hard lives. They look OK in the photos but not so good up close. Look for swirl marks in the paintwork, kerbed alloys and shabby interiors. Having said that, cargiant do have some decent cars, I bought an immaculate low mileage Civic from them a few years ago at a good price and sold it privately a year later for almost the same amount.

Cargiant are designed for selling cars to people who have no clue, and need finance. Pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap. Sort of place that wont let you test drive unless you have bought. Personally I wouldn't touch a car with a notchy gearbox from Cargiant...
