Ive got veneer in the usuall places, dash, and glove box, albeit it quite badly cracked, and the door handles are currently awaiting some burr walnut veneer to arrive.
The centre console has a badly chopped about metal plate, obviously butchered to fit the stereo, and the middle tunnel dash that houses the window switches and the interior light and dash light switches seems to be made of aluminium plate!
should these have a veneer on them?

I was thinking of putting on a perspex plate where the steel plate is and putting a veneer over the top, then subtely backlighting it. ( no neons and boy racer stripes, please note the 'subtely' wink )
Ill also try and do the same to the centre arm rest aluminium dash bit.

I have already replaced the so called 'fibre optic' illumination for the dash switches but this has little or no effect on the illumination of the switches! It simply does not shine through!

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Did you replace the fibre optic set up with a replacement fibre optic? I wired a led behind each of the switches
and cleaned the little coloured window at the top of each switch. It now looks pretty good but it was a fiddly job!

From memory, on my '80 Tasmin the window switch plate was just painted black.
Hope you have more success with wrapping walnut veneer around the door pulls than I did!

I have replaced all the fibres with LEDs and cleaned all the surrounds up but as the switch plate is metal its not making much of a difference, hence the perspex and opaque veneer!

Wedg1e,
the veneer ive ordered (fleabay) is .6mm and the vendor seems to think that with a bitf of help it will bend 90 degrees over 1 inch, so it should 'just' make it round the door handles, Ill also be gloss varnishing it several times to get the 'shiny' effect.

Thanks 80, thats exactly as mine looks, apart form yours has the steering wheel in a funny position!!!!! wink

Its funny to see that they kept the handbrake in the right hand drive position, and of course, pointing to the sky, ha ha ha ha.

Im still going to change the centre metal dash though.
