Front end respray

I must admit this one is confusing! I am getting a wide contrast in quotes from companys about have the front end resprayed to get rid of the dreaded stone chips. I spoke to a very helpfull man called dave in blackpool yesterday and he quoted £900. But I live near gatwick and I am getting local quotes around £2500!!! Ok it is cameleion blue but that is a huge difference! Does anyone know a local company to me that is good and does not take the piss?!

Try powers body shop I had a good quote of them for mine but decided to wait till next year as have lots of track days planned this year and would probably need doing again.

Madmatt..I had the same issue with chameleon blue. Apparently the paint is no longer available in the correct form to match the existing paint on the car(something to do with it being water or solvent based). So you may need a full respray or it will not match.

They are not Local but not to far away, try a company called Medcalf and co coach builders www.medcalfandco.co.uk the work they do really is second to none.

I also had high quotes for a front end respray (approx £2000 + VAT for Reflex Green - Surface and Design)- the paint is v.expensive, as is chamaeleon blue! However, S&D are acknowledged as one of the best companies for TVR re-sprays. Regardless, it will cost you a lot to get a re-spray in these colours - make sure the company has an immaculate reputation!

Targarama did have a good tip to keep costs more acceptable in a post some time ago:

"When I had my nose job (Red Glow pearl, TVR only colour), the garage did the base coat in a similar, but cheaper colour (a Rover or Volvo red I think), then the top coat in Red Glow, meaning less paint was used".

Ultimately, if you are driving a lot, in differing weather, on differing roads, you will pick up (quite a few) small chips - can you live with them and carefully touch-up (even use an expert detailer to do it for the fraction of the price of a full respray)? Or do you really need / want the front end resprayed?

Perhaps leave a re-spray until you decide to sell (God forbid!!)- if you are planning to hang-on, in a couple of years, you will probably need the same again (start saving).......

Mike Sellar at M.A.S. Car & Comercial in Kent. He is very reasonable and his work is superb. He paints many high end race cars and race car transporters. He also has does vintage and super cars and major companies haulage lorries so he has a wealth of experience. I have had all my cars painted by him.

I used Peter Smith at Hatton and was very pleased with the results on my Laser Blue T350.

This is what I'd do, too. I had a £600 Paintshield coating done after a front end respray at the end of 2007. 2.5 years and 20k miles later and still no stone chips - not a sausage. Paintshield operate from a unit off the A1 at Grantham that you can eat your dinner off the floor of.

ive had the armour guard fitted to the front of mine, and have had a few stones hit it, and leave small marks but have been told that it will heal itself as has a memory to it, was fitted for £350, if it prevents a re spray will be money well spent

Had some paint work done by Carizma at Melton Mowbray , then arranged for Paint Sheild to collect the car straight from there for a full wrap with film.

First class job by both parties, logisticly paint shield were brilliant.

Can't recommend them enough
