What am I thinking?
Discussion
After taking my 5 speed gearbox out early this year and having a quaife fitted and the gears shot peaned etc I spent a lot of time and money doing other stuff like upgrading the clutch and lightening the flywheel, replacing bits etc just to refresh things and keep the car reliable.
Unfortunatelly the car has quickly developed a rattle that has turned out to be the little ends and i have now removed the engine and am facting a rebuild.
Soooo I have decided that a full engine rebuild was not enough and that I should also swop the box for a 6 speed unit as well
Yes I think I am going slightly mad... did I also mention that I am due to go to Lemans in it on the 8th July?????

Well it seems all the evidence points to as you said Andy that with a few mods mine should be fine which saves 2k. had many different opinions but the facts speak for themselves. Just got off the phone after a long conversation and have decided to keep mine and get it upgraded, and change to the helix clutch and a new pressure plate.
sorry to mess u about.
Cheers Craig

Not a worry, I've already bought a box and have sent it to the gearboxman to have it shot peaned and a quaife fitted.... might be interested in a cheap mondeo spare tho to help me mock up the mounts etc.
For the clutch go to Mardi Gras.. they will send your clutch off to Helix to be modified (unless its cracked) and provide you a new plate... make sure you spec the correct plate tho as if you want over 500ftlb then you need the paddle.
My uprated helix clutch was not really noticably heavier than the std one and apparently the paddle isnt noticably different to mine so all good
might be worth getting your flywheel lightened... they got rid of loads of weight from mine and it wasn't that expensive.

Be vary wary of Mardi Gras, ensure that the clutch supplied is exactly what you expect, they supplied someone else on here with the wrong clutch and then said it wasn't their problem or responsibility, why not deal with Helix direct, MD do nothing for their money. Ah, might not be any good then - I paid £300 for this and would like to get the same back, or at least close.Edited to add I have the selector and cables as well which will be included - not sure if the cables are any use but you'll need the selector (from what I've researched).

8th July man, you must be bonkers.
I've been doing mine flat out now for the last 8-9 weeks and it drives you mad, nothing goes to plan and everything takes at least twice as long as you expect it too.
Things arrived, damaged, missing or not at all, nearly every supplier takes twice as long as they say they will and it stresses the he'll out of ya.
I'm due for mapping next wed with Trevor and I get a call this morning after being booked in for the last two weeks
from the company doing my exhaust to say that they can't do it on Friday aaaahhhhgggg.
Waiting for a late night call to see if it's still possible.
I started my build with a thirteen week window and it's about 8 weeks in and there is some light at the end of the tunnel but I'm sure it's a flicker.
All I can say is good luck and call on any mates you can because you'll need em.
Thanks to all that have helped me so far as I wouldn't be this far without you, you know who you are.

Nope, it's the 520 express bearing down at you, lights blazing - you can't see it clearly for all the turbo haze left by the last mapping session at track'n'road!!

And I thought there was going to be some fantastic constructive solution to someones problem there Trevor
Well I know Trevors a Clever old boy, but the ability to materialise me an exhaust from his laptop is even a bit beyond his abilities. You never know though........what ya reckon Trevor...... Keep the bends to a minimum please old chap.
