My battery died a death last night, and when the AA tested the battery they said it needed replacing.

Can anybody recommend a specific battery, or do i just go with the same?

Hi ,i have heard the "redtop optima" is real good.
Also noticed a guy on ebay selling varta batteries for
Gallardos for under £90 ,not sure what there like though.

If your near a costco check them out,go to the tyre fitting bay.
They have all the batteries on racks so you could measure them etc.

If your going to fit it yourself, pull the rubber seal off the front boot
bucket, remove a few screws,cd changer if you have one ,pull the whole
bucket out to get to the battery.
cheers

not changed on the Lambo, but did so recently on the Scoob and got a Varta/Bosch. They are the same amazingly.
Much better than the previous exide in there.

Think mine was a Varta D47 Blue Dynamic. Think the key thing here is the cold cranking ampage. CCA.
Obviously no good for a Gallardo, but think these and the Bosch S5/S6 range are good quality.

Has your car been stood or do you use it regularly? My battery will go flat in three weeks if not used or kept on a battery monitor. If it goes flat it will recharge and is fine. Did the AA also say they could supply you with a battery? (they have sales targets now)

I use it nearly every week and have it plugged into an optimate battery maintainer when its not in use.

I was expecting the AA to try and sell me one, but he didn't. He just jumped it and told me to get a new battery.

I don't think an optimate can handle the size of battery. I have 3 of them and I really like them but they are for my bikes.
For the lambo I got a CTEK MXS3600 battery charger. It's fantastic to be honest and not that much more expensive than an optimate and can handle much much large batteries and what Lambo rebadge. Cost me £44 I think.

Did he actually say the battery had seen better days as I believe they can run some diags to work that out?

He attached a diagnosis machine that gave a print out that said "replace battery".

I'll upgrade my optimate, as i've had it a while and was originally for my bike.

If it's a 2004, have you checked the water level!, mine is a standard lead acid battery and needed the level topping up.
It is a 100Amp battery btw.

I'll check the water level when I get all the trim out. In the mean time i've ordered one from the dealership at £144, which should be in this week.

Got the new battery a varta e39 agm and fitted it which was fiddly, but satisfying.

The new battery is slightly bigger than the old and the polarities are on the opposite sides, but it still fits well.

I also got the CTEK MXS3600, and have fitted the terminals on so i don't have to keep attaching the crocodile clips.

Battery should be 100-120Ah, not the 70Ah you have just bought, that's why the terminals are the wrong way round.
My old Saab was a 70Ah (3.0l V6) cranking a 5.0l V10 over is going to strain the battery and shorten its life.
