Bilsteins To Coilovers?

Well currently my mk1 is on the Bilsteins (and eibachs?) that it came with and already I'm starting to get bored of the frankly horrible ride it has. So as a result have been pondering getting some coilovers in the near future and was looking at the Gaz golds and full alignment from WIM or possibly the P5's. Has anyone done the same change and noticed a big difference? I just don't want to spend a large amount of money only for it to be similar to the current setup, I want to get rid of the crashy, bumpy and slightly nervous feelings it currently has and which makes even slightly rough roads a complete chore.
