Hi folks, a simple question if I may, prompted by a top gear repeat featuring a Marcos....

Is anyone out there still doing low volume v8 sportcars? I can only think of cobra replicas...

Just wondering!

Cheers...

Can only think of Ultima in the UK, but I think they tend to sell more kits than complete cars.

Yup, good point... Though I might class the Ult as a supercar!!!

I also thought of the aero 8 Morgan...

I thought the melling thing might have been a contender but seems to have come to nought...

They do LS engine conversions on the Saturn Sky but offhand, Corvette convertible aside, not really.

Relatively, yes, given the USA is HUGE and sales have dropped in recent years. From little acorns...

True, but that link would be of more use if the production numbers went past 1997 hehe

True.
It's currently just under 14k a year

Comparatively that's a bit less than the 2009 Boxster US sales when their sales had dropped radically. I believe the Boxster hit 200,000 production in 2006 as a yardstick.

Isn't the Weissman a straight six?

Regrettably most of the "specialists" have been swept away since the "big boys" of the motor industry decided to move into sportscars.

It's tough for 6 blokes in a shed to build cars which can compete with MX5, Elise, Boxster, Z4, Corvette, 911, Audi A8, Ferrari 458 etc.

Customer demand for expensive sportscars which can't match the engineering standards of a modern hatchback is distinctly limited.

I think and therefore am probably wrong, that they can be specced with a straight-six, V8 or V10 - bascially any of the BMW M engines.

Audi A8's a sportscar?

Blimey, I knew people accepted fat cars as sportscars these days, but I didn't know it'd got that extreme! wink

Do Bristol count?

Sorry missed that bit, although as Lu5ifer says, they are low volume in terms of total car sales in America. z06 engines are hand built and in many ways they are very similar car to a TVR, just more suited to daily duties and better built.

I know the C6 is a bit of a blob but it has grown on me in recent years. Still nowhere near as pretty as either the Stingray or the C2 though.

Anyway back OT

Low volume V8's

Weismann
Marcos
Wesfield (maybe)
Morgan
Bristol

Along with a few niche kit cars I would imagine.

Sebring, Dax, Marlin, BAD and I would think a good number of others. V12 Vanwall, are these still made?
