I could do with some opinions on what I should do, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my car insurance. Here's the basics -

My Puma 1.4 was insured in February, costing £77 per month.

In late February I bought a Honda civic 1.6, for which my insurance went up to £140/month. At this point my Puma is off-road being fixed.

I sold the Civic a few days ago, and rang up today to swap the insurance back to the Puma (it should be fixed soon).

They inform me that it will be an extra £40 per month to transfer to the Puma, so costing me £170 per month. I only wanted to transfer in order to bring the insurance costs down, as I don't need any car insurance for the next few weeks and possibly months anyway. I just want to pay the next two months off so that I will have one more year's No claims bonus.

The lady on the phone gave the explanation that 'the Puma must have become a much higher risk car than the civic in the last few months then'. I doubt it?

I guess I'll just have to pay the £170 per month for insurance I don't even need. Is there anything else I coudl do? Change the insurance to a KA/group 1/2/3 car that isn't mine?

You have to own the car to insure it, seems strange it should jump £100 extra a month from what it was!

The cost of insurance is a constantly fluctuating thing, if your insurer (not broker) had experienced an increase in loss with 1.4 Pumas owned by women called Lucy, then you'll find that the insurance premium levied to indemnify that risk is greater...

Also, there will be an admin fee thrown into that vehicle change (which you should be advised of)

Although an admin fee is normally only £20 or so and I'm sure they aren't that fussed about that if they can get more out of you every month
