Trip to New York ?
Discussion
I always find www.lastminute.com good for this type of break. You can also arrange a show etc through them

I am going tomorrow.
Staying at the Sofitel, which is in the thick of it apparently (never been before).
Will let you know what it is like.
(Getting a nosebleed now through posting on here so much lately)

We went a few years ago and stopped at the New Yorker, just up from Macy's, the ESB & Penn. St. station which was handy for us as we flew into Newark and got the train into Penn. St.
Another tip... the Rockefeller Centre has an excellent view. We found out the sunset time and booked to go up half an hour earlier so we saw the city in Daylight then watched the sunset and the city light up.

The New Yorker was very nice, Art Deco style decor. Though we didn't spend much time in the room, theres that much too see/do.
I spent a bit of time of trip advisor reading the reviews of potential hotels, got to the point of they were all very good and thought sod it, and booked the one that I liked the look of the most, and I wasn't disappointed.

I'm staying here for a few days right now (work, not leisure, unfortunately) and this hotel has an excellent location, is funky, squeaky-clean and very good value (less than $400 per night for a king room).
First time I've stayed here and I'm pretty impressed with it. I'm usually tied to Starwood chain hotels, so this makes a nice change from a Westin, W, or Sheraton.

We went in Oct 2008 I really enjoyed it.Stayed here....... http://www.westinny.com/
A little pricey compared to some but a great hotel especially when we were upgraded to the 43rd floor.
Try & get a big apple greeter......... http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/
It's free & I've read good things about them.We misssed out as our hotel was not confirmed in time.
It's a great City to get around.Just buy advance tickets & you can use the subway & buses.
Central Park was a great half day spent plus you've got to try the Statten Island Ferry.Just make sure you are quick at the other end or you'll end up kicking your heels waiting fro the next ferry.
Food was great value, especially breakfast. For Dinner we went before 19.00hrs & got the fixed price menu that loads of places do for about $25 each (three courses)
There is loads of info on NY here......... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php...
