Was heading east on the B1012 between South Woodham Ferrers and Burnham-on-Crouch at 11.35am today when I saw a largeish plane approaching me from the south. Snatched glimpses went like this:
Hmm, a plane.
Looks like a large twin.
Or is it four?
Ha, looks like a Lancaster. Wonder what it is?
Twin rudders - it couldn't be a Lancaster could it?
f
k me, it is!
At that point I parked up to watch it go over. It was heading north quite low, maybe 300 feet, with u/c down but there was no sign of it climbing or descending.

It had an Undercarriage problem at Southend Airshow on Monday.
The U/C was slow to retract on one side. It landed at Southend Airport after it's display (the Dak apparently visited aswell).
It had been at Southend awaiting repairs, this could have been it heading home.

''Lancaster 94' departed at 11.37 am departing north via Cambridge area to coningsby.'That was it then! Clever thing the interweb...
I was expecting the u/c either to go up, or for the plane to start landing somewhere, neither of which happened. Now we know why, thanks
