Evening all,

As a newbie to London I'm missing the coast. With the nice weather I'm on the hunt for recommendations for beaches within a day trip of North London ideally the closer the better but up to 2 and a half hours away. In true pistonheads style I want to drive so no trains, and we won't be staying over night.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated ears

Luke.

Aldeburgh, because it's just such a lovely place.

The beach is stony and the sea is cold, but somehow these things don't matter when you're tucking in to (most excellent) fish and chips in the society of The Scallop.

Anywhere starting from Hengistbury head along Bournemouth beach, Sandbanks, Poole harbour through Arne and all along the Jurassic coast would be my thoroughly biased recommendation. A beautiful stretch, offering everything from quiet secluded coves to rammed touristy streches of perfect sand.
