Hi

Anybody know if the sea vixen of dehavilland aviation is displaying this year? Had a dig round the net but cant find anything out. Also is De Havilland Aviation Ltd still trading or are they in administration?.

Thanks

Check on the UKAR forums, there was a discussion recently there.

I don't think anyone knows as yet, I think one of their pilots had a stroke last year.

It is all a bit quiet on the Sea Vixen front.

It is also a very expensive/thirsty aircraft to book for a display which is why RIAT wouldn't pay for more than a flypast last year!!

Don't know of any bookings as yet.

The pilot's stroke (from which he is recovering) was mentioned at the time in the speciality magazines at the time.

Thanks for the link unfortunately it doesn't sound that promising for any displays this year be a real shame if it doesn't frown

I hope it gets back in the air. I saw it had become Royal Navy Racing as opposed to Red Bull racing. I assume Red Bull helped keep it in the air so kudos to them but I do prefer it in the Navy colours.
A close relative of mine used to fix them. I remember one being outside one of the entrances at Yeovilton. Pity I don't remember them from when I was young....I do remember the Phantoms, Lightnings, Vulcans and especially the Victors.

Red Bull stopped sponsoring the Sea Vixen a few years back, that why it was repainted back into it's Royal Navy scheme after the end of the Red Bull sponsorship deal ended (it's not Royal Navy Racing wink)

It's a real shame the owners of the Vixen and RNHF can't come to some sort of transfer deal/arrangement for the RHNF to take over the a/c which would be the best outcome. She's not a cheap a/c to operate by any means though frown

DH were taken over by Hawker Siddeley Aviation, who later merged with BAC to become British Aerospace (BAe). BAe then merged with Marconi to form BAE Systems. The other bit of DH, De Havilland Canada, is now part of the Bombardier group.

I think Rich means De havilland Aviation at Bournemouth, the company that was involved with it's operation over the last couple of years.

Yes I did as far as I know they went into administration earlier in the year. I have been unable to find out anymore but it cant be good for getting the sea vixen or any of their other aircraft back in the air. frown
