Replacing the family car and have decided on the new fiesta. i can get 10 plate 1.25 zetec with for around 10k or get the 1.4hdi style+ 10 plate for the same. which one? can't decide. does the zetec have different suspension set up? i have read loads of road reports and they seem to agree that zetec s is too hard and ford engineers have said normal zetec has optimum set up in the range. but the only difference i can see between zetec and the lower spec fiesta's is trim and alloys? confused

Depends on your mileage PA.

I'd take the Zetec as it's a nicer place to be inside.

You'll be able to buy a new Zetec 1.25 3dr for about £10.5k.

Please don;t buy one, they are horrible, HORRIBLE to drive. They have absolutely NO go in them, the harder you plant your foot the more it seems you are going backwards! Absolutely gutless with horrible interiors.

5 door for 10k. not much mileage, say 8k a yr. will save £60 a yr on road tax with 1.4hdi and around £5 a week on fuel. But will get more on resale on the diesel and may well feel a little punchy at times which the 1.25 won't.

Not the 1.4TDCI.

It wouldn't pull you out of bed and it's very noisey.

The 1.4 petrol is the best all rounder, mind you i had a 1.6 petrol Zetec S until two days ago which was great.

Mind not trolling when the OP is looking for genuine advice.

The Fiesta is a cracking little car to drive by any benchmark.

So what exactly is it you drive then?

I have experience with the new Fiesta Zetec, therefore my opinion is valid in this thread. That's what matters.

I call BS myself.

The new fiesta is a fantastic little car.

OP - go and drive both options and make your own mind up.

New fiesta is a great drive for the sector imo and many reviews confirm this. Also whilst slow would not say the 1.25 petrol is a horrible engine I found it quite a revvy and eager lump personally. As said I would go for the 1.4 has 95bhp and gives it more than enough performance for the type of car and not too bad on the fuel either should get 40mpg unless you thrash it. Best car in the sector for the price in my opinion from driving a few only the clio came close but I thought the fiesta looked better both outside and in and just had the edge in terms of the drive. Oh and base spec’s have nothing spec wise so I would avoid personally and have the zetec I would recommend shelling out a bit more and getting the 1.4 petrol though myself have no experience of the diesel so cant comment on that however.

would do, but will be buying discount car supermarket type place where they don't really do test drives, which is fair enough as they are cheap. Plus i have all on trying to earn a crust without wasting time anyone's time.

Just to through a spanner in the works. I had the pleasure of a mazda2 for the day today and apart from it feeling under powered it handled superbly. I took it on a run I take my usual car on (challenging b road) and it didnt lose traction at all. I think it had a 1.2 as it would make a lot of noise at a decent lick tongue outolice: but it did look well specced with a in dash CD multi changer, air con and fog lamps .

I think the Mazda two and fiesta are the same underneath but I may be wrong… Don’t know how different they re in terms of price but imagine should be able to get a better deal on a Mazda and my mate does love his believe it is a 1.5 though and it seems very nippy.
