Another happy owner !!!

Finally (well almost) and very happily got my first TVR. A perfect 95 Chimaera 400.

I'll be collecting the car in a couple of weeks and wanted to make it feel as welcome as possible to its new home in the city....

I've orderred a copy of 'The TVR Griffith and Chimaera - second edition' and would appreciate any advice about bringing a country, dry weather second car to the city.

The car has an onboard battery charger, but my car park has no power supply, any advice, power pack.. ?

I'll be buying a cover, are they all the same, do I need a hood cover, to keep out the rain, or a full cover to keep off the sun ?

Inevitably the car will have to face traffic, is a thermostat override switch essential ?

Any other advice appreciated ?

I use a conditioner on mine which I bought from leven Just plugs into the cig lighter. It works for me but you will obviously need to find a power source to use this type of sollution. I also have a cover which is fited i.e it has ear type bits for the mirrors and seems to be the shape of the car. I bought this from www.classicadditions.co.uk/. They were very helpfull and delivered next day. As for temprature there are a number of things you can do. Most people say that the car should remain cool even when in slow conditions as the fan should kick in at 90 deg. If you find the car is running a little hot it's probably worth checking the otter switch, bleeding the rad making sure you have coolant, ensuring that the airflow is good through the grill. Most of this you will find threads for if you do a search. If that fails ask on here and there is always someone willing to advise/help.

Enjoy the car and watch out in the wet they do have a habit of trying to go the wrong way.

I also am in London, N1. Where abouts are you?

I don't have a charger on mine, just make sure I take it out at least once a week and all seems to be fine!

I have a cap cover - one that just goes over the screen and hood. But then again it is in a secure car park.

As for fans/cooling - I believe mine has had a lower otter switch mod, so it kicks in at a lower temp - about 80, I think. I have to say it's been a star (so far - touching wood ) all the way through last summer. Never over heated, never blew all its coolant. Fingers crossed it'll behave just as well this year.

I too have replaced my otter switch with a lower temp one, added a lower temp thermostat, water wetter and a little front number plate. Seems to have brought the temp down a bit as I am doing France and spain in june this year so wanted to ensure I was running v cool before i went.

plate so small as to be hardly visible to the naked eye... when i "saw" it anyway

Cheers Alan, took a look on classicadditions and will probably order the classic-lightweight cover.

Will chance the battery and the otter switch for the time being, and see how it goes.

ask there opinion as to the best choice of cover. They asked how often i was planning on using the car etc - if there is any risk of the car being even slightly damp when you put the cover on (as was the case with me) they recommended the 97% waterproof one - i think its the same one as you describe. If you get the 100% waterproof heavy duty one then put the car away with any dampness or water it can ruin paintwork.
