Wii Help

Ok Folks, I’m thinking of buying a Wii for the family (4 of us) and have done a little research but I would like your views on what I actually 'need' to get started. Initially I am looking to buy a basic package (in black) with sports which I think Amazon are doing for a good price along with the Wii fit (plus?) package.

given there are 4 of us what else do I actually need to get up and running, plus any thoughts on good singing / dancing games for my two daughters.

If you need to pick up additional Wii remotes then the Wii Play bundle is often a pretty good deal (especially if picked up second hand from Game, etc). It has half a dozen or so fun little games plus a wii remote for the same price (or less) than what a Wii remote alone would cost.

My boy (5) absolutely loves the Lego games (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) and for multiplayer Mario Kart is excellent (you can get wheels to go over the wii remotes for just a couple of quid).

Probably also worth looking on the Wii Virtual Console for some classic games like Bomberman, which is great fun.

Can't comment on the singing / dancing games I'm afraid.

My family too enjoys Mario Kart and the Lego games. My 8 yr old plays these with her friends. Get the wheels also (as bundle.) Any of the sports games are fun for all the family.

+1 for minimum 2 wiimotes and nunchucks.

As the others have said, Mariocart is ace, I'd go for a controller each plus a couple of nunchuks. Wii Fit Plus is miles better than the original and has some hilarious family fun games on it. I've found it worth while getting a recharging station for the remotes as well.

As already mentioned, Lego games. They keep my 6 & 9 year olds amused for ages. Wariowares, smooth moves is also good (9 year old loves it). Lots of mini games, single player, but doesn't take too long, or swap for each one. Fun to watch others playing too.
For Dancing, all three kids (I have a three year old as well) love Just Dance. No mat, just hold the wiimote, and follow the dancer/hints on screen. It's 4 player as well.

Get down to your local CEX and get a copy of the original Rayman's Raving Rabids game, not the follow ups which are nowhere near as good.

Driving games are pretty crap, apart from Mario Kart, which isn't.

The Wii motion plus controllers seem a bit of a rip off, but are worthwhile for the sporty games.

Would echo what everyone else has said. It's worth going for one of the bigger packages as you'll like end up buying it all anyway.

Not tried Wii fit but the girlfriend likes it
The one that I really love is Wii Sports Resort. Its great fun, especially multiplayer. The downside is that each controller requires a wii motion plus and ideally a nun chuck which soon adds up. It is good though!

I find that the Wiimotes eat batteries for fun so I've invested in rechargeable batteries.

Another shout for re-chargable batteries, the wiimote eats ordinary batteries like noones business.

I use them for all my xbox and wii controllers. Get a good 30 min charger to go with it, duracell sell them as a package, charger and 4 batteries (better to get another pack of 4 batteries to go with it too)
