Hose clips

A couple of times recently My front turbo pipe has blown off (1.7+ bar)so I decided to replace all of the hose clips with the wide type.

The throttle response is snappier; you realy can feel the difference. I think as the silicone hoses age they soften or creep or maybe just relax and with normal Jubilee clips the joints start to let by.

They have been mentioned on this forum back in the dim distant past, IMO definitely worth the money.

Ive been considering replacing all the hosing, maybe putting the hard pipe kit on from Pro-Alloy. Merlin motorsport do a pipe bending service, plus hoses etc.........have you got any suggestions or advice? Combined with your wider clips it may make a difference ( Did you gey the high, or medium pressure clips?)

Buy the Proalloy kit, it would be a lot of hassle doing it from scratch, when we did it, it took me Wayne and Alex at proalloy a whole day to sort, I used the high pressure clips and then cut the excess studding off

I only ever use stainless steel worm drive kits with cut out slots rather than indentations.

I'm fairly heavy handed and quite easily over tighten the indented type, with a screw driver. I can't over tighten the slotted type, even with a ratchet and socket.

I'm refering to worm drive clips on machines at work, mainly on hot injection moulding hoses or hose to take 7 bars of pressure.

Obviously I don't pay for them and it makes my life easier. But I'm more worried about safety than machine downtime.

I'm not sure whether the silicone would start to squeeze through the slots as they age/get hot though!

Needless to say, get a size of clip that's as close to the hose size as possible.

We use a fully-lined version of the same type of worm drive clamp that you describe. These clamps have an inner "tail" that cover all of the slots, so the silicone hose doesn't start to ooze through the slots, and so the slots don't act like a cheese-grater on the hose. BTW, these clamps work very well for the coolant system, too.

If your hoses blow off, there are several things to check. Make sure that the tube you're connecting to has a proper bead roll or other retention device. Clean both the hose and the tube of any oil or corrosion. Use a good quality high-torque clamp, either a lined worm-drive clamp, or a t-bolt clamp like Adrian describes. Make sure the clamp is sized properly. Make sure to leave a little hose sticking out from under the clamp, and make sure that the clamp is placed after the bead roll, not on top of the bead. Make sure that the hose is sized properly to the tubing - it should fit smoothly, without any wrinkles or looseness. Check your hoses - many hoses will soften and balloon under pressure, pulling the hose out from under the clamp. Not all silicone hose is the same - differences in the reinforcement material, silicone compounds, etc., make a lot of difference in how the hose will perform, especially under higher boost.
