Does anyone know what flew over my house in Penicuik this morning?

It woke me up and sounded like armageddon descending on my roof!

Couldn't see it but it must have been huge.

Quite often get Chinooks over Penicuik. On a clear/still morning like today sound echos around the valley. Didn't here it this morning though. What sort of time.

Loudest I've heard was when about 1/2 Dozen Apache Helicopters flew over a few months back.

At a guess, 11-11.30 (it seems we have had a power cut as my digi alarm clock is flashing biggrin)

Definitely sounded more jet engine than rotors

In East Lothian, get quite a few Tornados heading over the Forth, presumably from Leuchars, and they seem to disappear inland over the Lammermuirs.

Would only be about 30 seconds diversion to head over Penicuik...

Loudest thing i ever did hear was when we were in Normandy for a week's house-swap as a wean. It was a farm house kind of setup, very rustic.

Some fighter pilot went right over the house in his jet. couldn't have been more than 200ft up. Absolutely shat myself and hit the ground with my head in my hands laugh

I work with the final runway lights of Edinburgh Airport about 100feet from where I sit.

you havent lived till youve experienced an RAF VC10, with the throttles pinned, 100feet above you.

it makes everything on my desk rattle.

EVERYTHING incl Concorde is quieter - I suppose the RAF havent heard of "noise Abatement" - only thing Ive heard noiser was the Shuttle taking off from 2 miles away!

ah...left for work at 7am so didn't hear that.

When they use the old runway at Edinburgh Airport the planes don't half rattle the windows here in the Gyle.

There's apparently an air show at Perth tomorrow with a couple of Typhoons making an appearance. Perhaps it was them.

There was a tight formation of three (what appeared to be) fighter jets heading north east, across the approach to the airport and off towards the Forth Estuary. Although I think it was later than 11:30. They were certainly noisy enough...

Off ill with a migraine frown

Did try driving to work at 8am, but when you lose 80% of your vision due to tunnel vision before the migraine kicks in, it's not advisable to keep driving.

Then when the vision returns, 20 mins later it feels like someone driving 9" nails into your skull for up to 12 hours.

NOT the day for fricking fighter jets to be buzzing my house!

The most unearthly sound I've ever heard was a Lightening fighter. Didn't sound like anything of this world!

Something buzzed low over Stirling pretty much bang on 1pm yesterday, despite just about flattening a roundabout trying to spot the bugger, didn't see it. Oddly enough, first thought was a Typhoon, sounded just that little bit deeper and cracklier than the GR4's that very occasionally pass over.

I think it's the Perth Air Show this weekend, so those planes will be performing there. I saw and heard something very loud and fast when leaving Dalgety Bay earlier but I've no idea what it was!

A Spitfire passed over yesterday, presumably on his way home from the Perth Airshow, wasn't what I was expecting to see when I looked up! biggrin
