Im looking to learn Spanish. Never learnt another language before.

What is the best way of going about it? Any book or course recommendations?

I'm rubbish at languages, but even I made decent progress using Rosetta Stone.

You can pick up some second hand bargains on Amazon.

This, you will pick up so much more in 2 weeks out there than you would sat in front of a book for 6 months.

Porque? Vivo en Barcelona y yo no hablo muy bien, pero practico cada dia con mis amgos.

(I think I said...."Why? I live in Barcelona and I don't speak very well, but I practice every day with my friends"

Check your motivation as it's tough to go from nothing, but if you are prepared to put yourself in the situation, then it's good. I want to learn to fit in with the locals here, but it would be easy to stop..

Good luck.... oh and I hear Rosetta Stone is quite good but pricey

I learnt another language at a language school run by the Catholic Church (Marynoll Order) intended for imported Preists. Four hours a day for six weeks. It was one on one for the first four weeks, then two hours one on one and two hours small group.

It was some years ago so I can't remember the exact cost but it was not expensive.
I recall I did not complete the course due to a prior commitment but I was fairly competent. I could argue, tell jokes, and generally not be sold up the river.

NB I was the only non religeous person at the school, so it was a bit xxxxxx at first, but once I learnt the local phrase for "come on you bu66ers, I wanna see that collection plate full" it was a lot more fun.
Only school I've been to where beer was availablesmile

I just moved to Spain as the op said and starting only mixing where there were any Spanish, started to learn the language that way, then thoughht it was a bit slow for me so went and got hypnotised daily for a couple of weeks.

That sorted the problem then got married to a lady from a Spanish family problem sorted

Immersion is good, and there's no substitute for it, spend as much time as possible reading, speaking and listening to Spanish. There's tons of online papers, radio and TV stations to go at, and try to get involved on a Spanish message board, émbolo del pistón or something.

Also, don't skimp on basic rote learning of grammar and vocabulary. I know most of the programmes and courses say this is old fashioned or not worthwhile, but to get the basics there is no better way IMO, and once you have the basics enough to understand written or spoken Spanish you will learn so much quicker.
