Hi

Is it possible to retro fit E60 front seats into an E39?

Has anyone done it already? if so pics please!!!!!!!!

If there are any experts out there taking an interest - For the sake of this question please assume I am fitting electrically adjusted and heated E60 seats to an E39 equipped with electrically adjusted and heated seats.

Thanks!

Hi Trellis!

Some responses here...

1. I don't think anyone has actually done this. So, on that basis, I suggest that you become mr guinea pig and either commision a reputable place to make them fit, or do a DIY yourself to make them fit and of course, ensure which ever route you take, all is recorded pictorially with an excellent write up so the rest of us can have the knowledge! - i'd also have thought this option would also nicely drain your bank balance as well smile

2. Look for aftermarket seats such as Recaro, Sparco etc and see which of those will fit without too much fettling and customisations.

3. I've sat in the E60 sports seats and they're so much 'bigger' than my E39 ones! My E39 sports seats seem to hugg me better - im 5'9 75KG on a good day. I'm sure the E60 ones I could get used to, but they are much bigger and I don't feel the side, thigh bolsters as much.

If you have a look around, you'll see a 'few' E39 M5 owners who've swapped in Recaro's and had them trimmed to flow more with the leather of the rest of the car, including some two tone variants. They look utterly fantastic and as some have reported, the standard M5 seats feel like flat benches and how they'd wished they'd converted years previously or one of their first mods in hindsight. E39 Sports seats are'nt too dissimilar to E39 M5 seats - mainly in the stitching and leather pattern really, so I'm tentatively looking to do something similar for my Touring. I'm kind of scared to look on the Recaro website as I'm sure I'll see the seats I want, and they'll be like £1500 each or something!

Lastly, measure and measure again, then measure and double check again, as I think off hand, the E60 sports seats might 'just' be too big to fit into the E39 Chassis/cabin area, but please! go ahead and let us all know! wink

Cheers, Dennis!

thanks for the responses -

to clarify - I'm not going to be a guinea pig on this one, I love my car too much and dont have the time to spend trialling lots of things on it - I'm just trying find out if its already been done - seems that many people dislike E39 seats - I figured someone would have done it by now!

On recaros - personally I think they are a bit OTT for an E39 - just my opinion. If anyone has any pictures - I might change my mind! Plus they are pricey and whatever I did to my interior I'd want it to look 'OEM' rather than 'after market' - hence the thinking with E60's.

Its a shame - I think BMW made one of the greatest cars ever with the E39 - I just think their seat design was poor. Its strange because E34 and E30 sport models got good seats, but they seemed to go wrong with the E39.

Hiya

I also love the Sports seats in my E39 as well, very supportive and comfy indeed. However, I'd like something 'different' and just seen this on the M5board

So, I'm now pondering doing something similar... wink

Cheers, Dennis!
