I'm in the market for a Octavia vRS diesel, and one of the ones i'm looking at is an ex company car owned by HSBC. It has a full skoda history.

Is the fact it is ex company anything to worry about? It is above average mileage (74,000 since 07), but with regular servicing, is it anything to worry about?

thanks

As a company car owner it wouldnt worry me. Nearly everyone at my work looks after their cars well, they get all the servicing and I reckon many get consumables early during services as the lease company just pay what the garage say is needed.

My company A3 is treated better than most private cars and is totally unmarked. As someone has chosen a VRS you would tend to think they knew what they wanted and for this reason probably looked after it better. It might just be me but I tend to notice company cars with nice options fitted tend to be better looked after as these people care more about their cars.

I would check over the history carefully. I'm sure my dads old rav 4 probably came with full history. However that consisted of new front tyres at 45,000 miles new rears at 64,000 and its first service/mot around 84,000 with the odd oil top up. It only had the mot/service done because the replacement wouldnt arrive in time to hand it back until it was over 3 years old. Thats volvo waiting lists for you.

I'd hazzard a guess that your fathers car wasn't leased then? . . . . . . . . . . Most leases have a section or two in the agreement, that specifies the car has to be serviced within the manufacturers recomendations, irrespective of whether or not the lease is with or without servicing included smile

My 2p would be that as long as the service history is up to date and the car matches your expecations, then there is absolutley nothing wrong with buying an ex company car

Just finished hand washing my company car, as I do every week.

There are just as many badly looked after co. cars as private. Half the non company cars out there are leased/financed with baloon payments, and they are just as likley to be badly looked after.

As was said above, most company cars get regularly serviced since it doesn't "cost" the user anything to do this.

Leasplan come round our office car park checking cars don't need tyres replacing...

I'd never buy an ex company car that I had been issued with. However, I think that I'm in the minority of company car users so you'd probably be ok!

You can't generalise like that for every abuser there will be another careful user.
Take each car on it's own merit how you find it, but a good valet works wonders.

Half the guys at work never check their oil between services...which with a TDi is rather a gamble IMHO.

But as said above, some private cars are abused/ignored as well, so nothing's a 'safe' bet...

I've just bought an 07 vectra which was a company car 54K on the clock and no service history and I didnt even test drive it. Bit of a punt, but it was an absolute steal. I gave it a physical exterior check over which confirmed that it had been looked after (brakes, tyres, changed etc) body work was straight and true. Nearly a week later and I'm very pleased. Its booked in for a service on monday just to make sure everything is as it should be but so far so good.
