Hi sorry for th enumptyness of my question but I suppose thats why we use a forum.
My Cosworth was recently re-mapped because it was runnning rough at 3k and a bit hotter then normal, also the rev counter was going wild under hard accelerating and oscillating between 3 - 5k.
but any way, the guys remapping could only take it to 5k absolute max because it was running so lean. The increased the regulator pressure but that made the engine run leaner and they said that the fuel pump was probably not up to the job. It came off a Mustang V8 NA. They said that because it was naturally aspirated that it probably wasnt delivering the pressure needed as the mustang would run lower pressures than my Turbo cosworth.
So I thought I should get a Walbro fuel pump. However I cant get the pump out of the tank....damn.
But also under the tank there is a 6" long 3" diameter cylinder which is on the outlet pipe going towards teh engine and before the regulator. I wondered what this was and whether it was designed to increase pressure in anyway.
Any opinions would be most welcome

Just exactly what car is this ??

And a Mustang V8 n/a pump could literally mean anything as well as completely the wrong thing.

If the cylinder you describe has no electrical connections to it ie it's not a second pump then it is most likely a filter.
The fact you don't know what it is also points to it not having been replaced and could itself be blocked and therefore the problem.

If you still want to go the route of changing the pump then fitting a surge tank and inline pump in the engine bay may solve the problem of not being able to fit the new pump in the tank.
