Spent all day loading up hire van with garden waste only to find it's too tall to go into the Reading dump (nice one van co.)

Drove to Oakley wood nr Ewelme, but was shut. Couldn't see height restrictions in place - anyone know otherwise... or anywhere else to try?

cheers

(moderators - pls excuse double post.. van goes back tomorrow)

Did you tell them you were getting it to take to the tip?

Refuge sites normally do not allow commercial vehicles. You will need a special pass - it's called a 'tenner' smile

Only tip i can get my van into is the main one that the landfill trucks from the smaller 'local' tips go to. Take a look on your council website, they will usually state any height restrictions in place at all the local tips.

Expect to be weighed on entrance and exit, and expect to be judged as to whether its trade waste or not. (Then again, im always going in with a signwritten or plain van, Never been in a hire van so you may not get the matey-boy pikey trying to skimp on waste disposal costs-malarky.)

Try Bracknell ? Not sure, but may be worth a look.

www.re3.co.uk

Bracknell also has height restrictions and you need to book to bring a commercial vehicle down there.

However, as Bracknell is a dump anyway, just drive into the town centre and dump it in there. Will probably improve it.

The rubbish tip at Ewelme/Wallingford etc does not have height restrictions, have been many a time with my Bongo which would be a similar height to a van.

Ewelme didnt have height restrictions, but objected to the amount of garden waste I had in my hire van. The bloke was at least vaguely apologetic, unlike Reading.
Redbridge near Oxford was the answer - although I had to go on the weighbridge & pay a bit, but was very happy to dump the stuff in the end.

All the tips I've ever visited have had in effect a gated height restriction, and provided you've your postcode you just have to fill in a couple of details and they open it for you!
