if i were to remove my spare wheel would my car pass an MOT if i just had a can of tyre weld in the boot? the normal jack does not fit under my car where it's been lowered 60mm and so if i did get a puncture i need to carry my trolley jack around, which not only takes up space, it's also about 10kgs and a spare wheel and tyre is also a good 15-20ks so i could save 25-30kgs by removing all that crap and just putting in a can of tyre weld. would this be ok?

cheers smile

Yes. You don't even need the tyre-weld.

you don't need a spare, even if you don't have run flats.

Surely if you really had to have it for the MOT, then plonk a spare wheel and jack on your passenger seat whilst you take it for it's MOT?

On the couple of occasions I've had to use tyre weld I found it would not inflate a tyre that was not lifted off the ground.

You do not require a spare wheel for MOT.
It is not a testable item, but if it is defective the tester will tell you.

Only if he/she sees it. "Most" testers don't spend time looking at things irrelevant to the test.

My Clio Trophy has no spare, it has 2 cans of tyre weld and a small jack. You're supposed to lift the car when filling the tyre with the tyre weld.

Hence the comment as the OP doesn't want to carry a jack, for 10KG I can't see the problem.

A carjack doesn't weigh 10 kgs though, Shirley?

sorry don't think i said, my car has been lowered 60mm so the jack which came with the car doesn't fit under the car, so had to buy a low-entry trolley jack.

ok, the spare wheel will go, but the jack will stay laugh

Mmm, interesting I never knew that. I don't have a spare or a jack in the mini and only 2 cans of tyre weld and a compressor to rely on.

it doesn't say on the can of tyre weld that you have to jack the car up though does it. hmmmm.

My Focus RS doesn't even have a jack. I bought a spare wheel for my Clio Trophy.

which would suggest that you don't need to jack the wheel up for the use of tyre weld? the instructions on the can do not state it needs to be jacked up.
