Dear all, I have just got a Mitsi HC5000 and need to get a screen. I am looking for a screen size of between 80-100 inches (diagonal) and it'll be a manual pull down one form the ceiling.

Any recommendations? Would this one be any good?

Thanks

As your projector is 16:9 (ie widescreen) then I wouldn't recommend buying a 4:3 screen as this means for everything you watch, there will be black bars top and bottom. As many BluRays and DVDs are in 2.35:1 aspect ratio (sometimes refered to as 'scope' thought this is technically incorrect, but most understand the general idea) then you'll only get an image on half the height (approx) of the screen and the rest will be black bars. Therefore I'd recommend looking for a 16:9 screen or even (like myself) if you mostly watch modern films, then get a 2.35:1 screen.

TBH the one in the link would do as a start if you viewed it as a disposable item that may last a year or so while you work out/save up for what you really want. Most manual pull down screens will start to wrinkle at some point regardless of what they say in the advert, certain heavier materials are more durable and if electrically operated may take longer before they start to wrinkle. Also manual screens can get a big 'V' wave in them due to the tension of pulling them up and down. Ultimately a fixed screen or tab tensioned screen is the way around this issue, but either the cost or not being able to leave a fixed screen out may count against them, so a cheap 'throwaway' screen replaced as and when it wrinkles might be a solution you could live with...but check the aspect ratio first. smile

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the detailed reply.

Being honest, it i a stop gap until we decide what to do long term. It'll be used fairly rarely I imagine.

Thanks again

Or just pull the the screen down far enough to give you the desired ratio.
