betting is all about looking for value

and I think germany are good value at that price

you can NEVER rule out the germans

they have an iron will that is humbling and incredible to watch

and whilst its pretty obvious that they don't have the best players, they nearly always have the best team mentality

they move as a single organism so very well and I really think that 14's is too high

they have an easy route as well, probably winning their group with relative ease then playing probably the USA or UK (and winning no doubt on penalties !)

if they manage that then they will play the best team from A and B which are weak groups with out of form teams. I wouldnt like to say who would win from A and B between france, argentina and mexico. Germany would have a realistic chance against any of them IMO.

Stuck a bit on Spain to win with Van Persie top goalscorer. I think he's going to have a cracker.

yesbiggrin

Presumably that's 10 arguments to 1 outbreak of peace.

I'd like to think & hope that Spain will win & provide low value value but if I were looking for real value & dark horses, I'd be looking to Argentina (as long as Maradona is banished to the stand as often as possible), Italy (like the Germans, only luckier) and Black Beauty (I'm here all week).

Sadly, I hope that Brazil don't get anywhere near - effective but just not the real deal.

Am I the only person that is thinking of putting a fiver on france?

I know they are rotten, but they do have a decent amount of quality in their team.

Purely on a value basis, I think England are too short at 15-2 on betfair, so objectively should be laying them. However, this is also akin to emotional hedging, which never, ever works! So for me, as a flutter, both Italy and Germany around 16s.

Anyone know where I can get a free bet? </miserly git>

My plan is to bet against England in every match so in the event that they fail to win, I can console myself with the fact that my bank account is slightly bigger. In the event that I lose money, that's perfect fine in my books! Emotions vs money.

They've not known how to play without Zidane in the side for the past 12 years.

Holland and England for me.

even if england had the best team in the world with the best players...

we would still lose

because we lack on vital ingredient, the very thing that makes a winner a winner:

They also have a complete loon for a manager. Unless Henry's team talks (once the team have finished ignoring Domenech) are particularly good, I wouldn't put money them.

already done the same, unbeaten in 19 and even if Robben doesn't make it I think Van Persie will have a cracker.

Might have a bet on Germany. They always seem to be there or thereabouts. Argentina could be a good bet but the manager is a bit eccentric and they struggled to qualify. England are a false price and patriotic as I am, I can't back them at those prices.

Was toying with the idea on betting England lose and every time I take a loss, apply Martingale... I mean... do we really expect England to win? (That would be awesome, of course.)

Little stat,

No European team has ever won the world cup when played outside of Europe...

But still my bet is going to be with

Spain and Villa (top scorer)

outright: argentina, despite maradona being bonkers, that forward line is just so strong.
spain are worth a punt too but odds arent great.

top scorer: well worth looking at luis fabiano as top scorer as Brazil have played one upfront throughout the qualifiers. also the obvious villa, messi and torres.

i'm going random for a few as well. you can get reasonable odds on North Korea not scoring a goal, with Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast its hard to see where they will score, same with New Zealand who have a pretty tough group and only Rory Fallon as a known striker and Honduras. I wonder what odds are on all three not scoring?

also most goals in a group, haeva look at G and H. both have a very strong team in Brazil and Spain, two good teams and a very weak team in NK and honduras.

naming group winners is pretty easy bar group G (roll on 25th) as that could go either way if both teams need a result having dropped points against the ivory coast. getting second is a bit harder. most groups have an obvious 1st and 4th but some, like group A have a real tough call between Uruguay and Mexico. there is good money to be made on naming the group qualifers though.

also red cards, in 64 games, I would reckon on >40 red cards, referees just go bonkers in the world cup and over-penalising tackles is common.
