On other forums that I use regularly (namely ADVRider and UK KTM Forum) when hovering the cursor over a thread title a small text box pops up with the first few lines of the first post pops up to give you a better idea of the thread's contents.

A nice touch I think as it stops me from wasting my time clicking on badly named/misleading thread titles.

It is on our list of developments but we have to link it to site performance too.

Pulling back the first post for each of the topics is a bit more database intensive as we have to go and look at another place in the database. Thus it requires us to model out the impact of these kind of changes, but it is something we are looking into.
