Mobile Tracker & Clifford fitting

Hi all,

New to these here parts but I have a question for you all

I need to have a tracker (and ideally, a decent alarm system) fitted to my latest car. I'm based in Edinburgh and would ideally like a mobile fitter to do it (so I can keep an eye). Can anyone recommend a company that would do this, based in or around Edinburgh?

Hi Martin

Welcome to PH. I am in Edinburgh and have used Ray Smith Car Hi-Fi on many an occassion.

As far as I'm aware they work for many of the car dealers in Edinburgh and I've always found them to be faultless.

The likes of Tracker and RAC TrackStar will also do a mobile installation service but you end up with the equipment being 'thrown in' at the roadside.

Thanks for your reply - I've never heard of that outfit before. I'll be sure to give them a call.

The problem is I'm totally clueless as to security and tracking systems. There seems to be such a vast range out there that trying to find something suitable is the need in the proverbial haystack.

What I'd like is the usual box of tricks/specs but with:

1) Tracking
2) Proximity Alarm

any suggestions?

Hi,
I cant recommend anyone but i can warn you against using GAP Security. They do mobile fitting. I paid a deposit of £150 for them to come and fit the clifford avantguard 5.5. After the initial phone call i didnt hear from them for 5 weeks, so i phoned to cancel the order on grounds of terrible customer service. The sales man, Guy is his name, told me my complaint about customer service was irrelevent as I was not a customer as I had not bought a product. He refused to refund my deposit and hung up. The total cost was going to be £750, I see this as £600 saved opposed to £150 lost.

So to sum up, avoid GAP Security at all costs.

Thanks for the headsup - I had been looking at them as they came recommended on another forum (and are a supporting trader!)

I'll steer clear!

Edit: I think mobile is probably a bad idea. Having the car booked in would probably be better I guess!

I used these guys for my Clifford system and they were very good on price, fitted it at my house and provided decent aftercare service www.evolutionice.com

It does pay to check with your insurer how much the premium will rise without a tracker fitted. A years subscription with Navtrack was about £300, the premium increase without one fitted was £60.

Yeah I realise that but unfortunately I'll need to have one fitted to keep the insurance company happy.

I'd be installing one anyway - means I can find the crunt that's stolen it myself and dish out some Justice my own style

If you get no joy through Edinburger way, then Skidz in Falkirk are excellent. I've delt with them for various things for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. They are honest guys and will give you the correct advice, even if it means not making the sale. They treat customers cars like they were their own and their service cannot be faulted.

Lovely new custom built showroom and workshop aswell.
