Brazil Itinerary
Discussion
Hi guys
I have been inspired by the recent thread "Brazil - cool country".
I had been planning to go to Bali and KL for my honeymoon next year but now think Brazil might be a better option. I've never been to the Americas so that is definitely a carrot...
What I want to do is 1-week in Rio followed by 1-week in a remote beach resort. Any suggestions for the beach resort - do they even exist close to Rio?
Please excuse my ignorance, I know very little about that part of the world.
Cheers

Rio itself is one big beach resort and there is much to see here... Rainforest take your fancy??
However if you want to go somewhere else on the beach, remote and close to Rio don't really go I'm afraid... It's all got rather commercial... As I said to others Angra dos Reis is about 90 miles south of Rio and due to it's nature, it is made up of around 350 islands, it has some parts that will feel very remote if you find the right spot.
I also suggest you could look to the north of the country, Salvador is great, and there are lots of good beaches in Bahia generally.
Give me a shout if you want to know anything else, I seem to be turning into a brazil travel agent.. ( not that I mind!!)

Thanks, Harry.
Rainforest would be good - I'm really just looking for total peace and quiet with a really nice small/boutique hotel. Any places spring to mind?
The main idea for the honeymoon is 1 week city (nightlife, shopping, sight-seeing) followed by 1 week remote luxury (beach, forest, whatever).
Thanks!

As I have a place in Rio I am a rubbish person to ask about hotels there, hopefully others will be able to help you out there.. But Ipanema and Leblon are the best areas to stay.
As for elsewhere, there is an amazing place just outside Manaus called Ariau Towers which is a massive tree top concoction.
Alternatively, if you don't want to travel too far, relatively, from Rio, there is a great relaxing spa not far outside Sao Paulo called Sete Voltas.. I have been several times and have never been anything but impressed. Neither of these places are boutique admittedly but they are certainly luxury :-)

Personally I would yes, but both are lovely places. I just think that the landscape of Angra is nicer, so many nooks and crannies beach wise due to it's geography.
I've just got back from a few days there and even in winter it was still a nice 23-25 degrees.
It is only my opinion though...

We are just back from Rio and had an amazing time, but I'd say there is too much to do for a honeymoon. I'd want somewhere beautiful and romantic.

I kind of agree with you and that's why I want to do 1 week in Rio follwed by 1 week of total peace and quiet... hopefully somewhere not too far away.
