I've been with BT for about 2 years and the service was excellent until about 3 weeks ago when it went tits up and they dont know why.

They've looked into it and come back with the conclusion that they can't help

I've changed the wireless receiver and whatnot, but no good...it's still unreliable and sometimes almost dialup-esque frown

Anyway I'm thinking of jumping ship to O2 (been with their mobile service for years) but wanted some opinions first

Over to you smile

I'm getting a signal but 'no connectivity' from my O2 wireless router...same thing as you?

Internet with BT has been bloody cack, despite it being 2010 i can barely get a 1meg connection when all i see is adverts for 40 this and 100 that. The line always cuts out, and is incredibly slow and annoying.

But, after complaining, i was informed that they are rolling out BT Infinity to my area by the end of the month with a possible 18mb jump in download speeds and the price is ok so i may hold on for that.

I'm with BE (owned by O2) - has been bloody brilliant.

They're great if you can go LLU'd. I'm less convinced about their non-LLU'd service (ask Barry, he's on non-LLU'd O2).

I'm with BE who are O2 owned, cheaper and a smidgen faster (O2 are 20mbit and BE 24 if I recall). Fast as fork yes

Local Loop Unbundling. Means not using BT's lines.

Basically means other companies hardware installed in the boxes that BT formerly monopolised, much much faster.

http://www.samknows.com/old/broadband/checker2.php

Check there to see if you can get it, being so close to the city I'd be surprised if you can't. That said, Baz is, so who knows - it is Yorkshire after all wink Once you've done that if you can get LLU go to www.bethere.co.uk , tell them I sent ya and we both get a month free iirc biggrin You need to get your code from BT which they dispatch pretty quickly I found (emailed me in an hour or two). I'd expect it's much the same process with O2, but I recommend BE highly.

Another convert to O2 Broadband, definitely reliable, hardly any downtime in past 12months plus no capping, and also higher speed than found with TalkTalk/AOL. Can't fault them. Some very good bundled packages available as with mobile, home line etc..

Mixed feelings, I was promised at least 4mb on a line capable of 8mb and all was well for the first month then the speed dropped dramatically down to 0.5mb and less even though my next door neighbours are running at 4-5mb. I struggle with online games and BBC iPlayer but after a phone call to their friendly and British customer services they offered 6 months free broadband and if no improvement after that they will terminate the contract. If the speed was better it would be an all round good package.

I've been with o2 for 2 years now at first they sent me a dud router a quick phone call and I had a replacement within 2 days. The intial setup and sending the starter pack took less than a week definatly a good provider for when you move house I remember virgin taking 2 weeks to setup after a house move rolleyes

My connection was very patchy to start with but that was bt's fault and after a month or so they upgraded the exchange.

Never had a problem since always a very constant and fast connection.

I went to o2 on the advice of this forum.

What a crock of st. Up and down like a we's drawers, slow as a snail in treacle. Bunch of arse.
