Given that Daimler-Chrysler own Mercedes, how are Jaguar able to use the Daimler name for some their recent models - Daimler Super Eight springs to mind?

I know the Daimler name has bounced around quite a bit over time but can anyone shed light on this?

Because Jaguar own Daimler. I seem to remember that when Mercedes off loaded the Chrysler bit and want to call the new holding company Daimler AG they were allowed to do so by Ford (who owned Jaguar at the time) as the name of the company name but not in the name of a car. The history is long and confused but it boils down to the fact that Gottlieb Daimler sold the name twice. Firstly in England and then in Germany. When a French importer found he couldn't sell German Daimlers in France they changed the name to that of the daughter of the importer, Mercedes.
