This allergy you speak of...

Does it makes you go dizzy and throw up after only a few hours exposure to alcohol?

Nope, you need to find some alcohol you are not allergic to.

They sound like any group of people on the beer TBH. The least they should do is pay your petrol and soft drinks for the lift if you cop for doing that most of the time.

My wife doesn't drink and doesn't drive but she ends up as baby sitter and voice of reason for her girlie frioends, and subs the others who buy her a diet coke but then put a bottle of wine on the group bill, which royally hacks her off.

laugh

Seriously though, how do you handle it when you notice things added to the bill? I'd probably cause a scene.

It depends on whether your friends are happy drunks or not.. If they are, it doesn't bother me so much, but if your friends can't go out without getting wrecked, do you really want to spend that much time with them? I mean, do they not arrange things where they don't get drunk?

Sounds to me like you need to stop trying to be responsible for your friends... ... Go out with them, loosten up, have a laugh but stop worrying about pointless cr@p...

I drive more often than not on nites out... its not amazing fun, but it can be a laugh if you relax.... try pretending you are drunk, eventually your body agrees with your mind...

I understand what you mean and especially in a restaurant with bottles of wine etc, then it's certainly a big difference.

However, I have the converse problem; a friend of ours always drives to the pub (we walk because we live close, so he's not giving lifts) but he never buys a drink because he only drinks pints of diet coke. He fails to realise his pint of diet coke is actually more expensive than a pint of beer. So in your restaurant scenario I agree, but do be aware soft drinks are awfully expensive in a pub environment (though if you're driving; you get them anyway smile )

To be honest, it sounds like you need to stop going out with your friends so often on this piss.

In the pubs you go to they're either royally taking the piss with coke prices or you're drinking piss instead of beer. A pint of coke here is somewhere around £1.50 with a half decent pint of beer around £3.

Then again people are a bit backwards around here.

Maybe not the same for you, but this only happens to me with beer, wine etc. As long as I stick to clear spirits I can drink until I fall over :-)

I don't drink...well.....a tiny amount. I am diabetic and even a couple of pints can make me feel like poo for ages. As a result I am an expert on diet coke and being sober around drunk people.

Doesn't really bother me. I've learned that they aren't actually my problem to deal with, but I do like to make sure any ladies present can get home if plastered.

In the West End my diet coke can be as much as a beer so I don't worry about the cost of drinks. I am always amused though when people, normally blokes with a few drink issues, say 'never trust a man that doesn't drink'. Yup, have a few pints and it makes you VERY trustworthy doesn't it!

Being sober around intoxicated people is no fun! Especially if it gets to a point where they slur their words/speech.

god i hate it when people do this, life really is to short to worry about if someone had a drink more than you or a more expensive steak.

I have enjoyed sober nights out with my not so sober friends, however it can be tempting to automatically take responsibility for them.

This is ok unless friends become reliant on you to look after them, what would they do if you weren't there.

I think you need to take a back step a couple of times, if the night goes well you can learn to relax a bit more, if not maybe you should have a word to them or find a group of friends that aren't drinkers or who don't end up out of control after a few drinks.

Guess it depends on the difference. If it changes your total price by 30%, that's a bit annoying. If it just meant an extra £1 I wouldn't be bothered either. But if you were on cokes and they were ordering £20 bottles of wine, things would be different. "Wait a sec, let me order a lobster and Cristal to take away... how do you guys feel about splitting the bill now?"

A pint of coke £1.50? I'd be amazed, certainly! I live in the south-east perhaps it's just different, but you're looking at just over £3 per pint I think and a bit more for a pint of coke.

I used to be ok about splitting bills until one meal I ended up paying double what my bill should have been (£30 instead of £15) I was trying to keep cost down, veterinary nurses not the best paid! so wasn't drinking and ordered a lower cost meal, I ended up paying towards peoples nice bottles of red wine and fillet steaks. I was not impressed but felt to embarassed to say anything (I thought as we didn't all know each other that well, we'd be paying our own bills) I wouldn't have bothered if if was e.g. £5 difference
