M6 Oil guage and consumption
Discussion
Without wanting to bring up already discussed issues regarding M6/M5 oil consumption (yes I know they are quite thirsty) I have a few issues regarding the accuracy of the oil guage.
I've just done a long drive (600 miles) from London to Switzerland. When I left the oil guage was showing 0.7 Litres of the last litre remaining. During the journey this dropped to 0.4 and I was about to look for somewhere to buy a litre of oil to top up, when it suddenly jumped up to 0.9 litres remaining. It has now stayed on 0.9 for the last 100 miles or so.
Has anyone noticed this before? The car is very new to me, so not aware of how accurate this guage is.
Also, does everyone reccommend the Castrol 10W 60 to use?

Mine has been very accurate (2006 and 34,000 miles). When you add oil - I add 1 litre when it gets to 0.1, then you need to restart the car and wait for the OBC to work it out for a few seconds (usually 10 seconds). If you are fearful that yours is inaccurate, best pop to a decent indy or a bm dealership. Fook knows how much a new lump would cost..........
Edit to add - definitely USE the castrol matey.
