Delta shaped aircraft over Lancs, saturday night.
Discussion
So after a light shower of rain on Saturday eve, I wasn't surprised to hear distant thunder later that night.
However, it got louder and louder, so I looked out to see a dark delta shape heading northwest, pretty low, climbing and then banked right to head east from Wigan area.
I've seen the Vulcan fly many many years ago, and the sound was familiar, could it have been that - if not, what?

Are you sure it wasn't a Typhoon? I was at RAF Scampton when they were doing the test flights and was surprised as to how loud it was - very similar to the noise a Vulcan made. I've worked around jets for most of my adult life and, apart from said Vulcan, it's the loudest I've heard. (Granted they would've been pushing it to it's limits as part of the testing though).
Tiffie would be most likely...it is a delta of sorts, and Wigan is close enough to BAe Warton, although, I'd be surprised if any flying took place on a weekend from Warton though, and the RAF don't usually fly at weekends either, apart from displays and QRA.
Very remote possibility that could be Tiffie display a/c on way back from displaying at Perth.....but likely route from Perth to Coningsby wouldn't take it anywhere near Wigan....??
